Lee Sung Jin, the creator of the Netflix series Beef, has said he would be satisfied if the show concluded with its recent second season. He seems open to not continuing the dark comedy beyond that point.
Lee Sung Jin, the creator of the popular show Beef, recently discussed what’s next for the series. The first season, which debuted in 2023, starred Ali Wong and Steven Yeun as two people whose argument on the road quickly escalates into a complicated and dramatic conflict.
The second season, which came out on April 6th, moves the story to an exclusive country club. We follow a young couple – played by Cailee Spaeny and Charles Melton – who overhear a fierce argument between their employers, played by Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac. As their lives become increasingly connected, other characters enter the mix, including Youn Yuh-jung, a celebrated South Korean actress who plays the owner of the Monte Vista Point Country Club, Chairwoman Park.
Lee Sung Jin, the creator of the show Beef, said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he’d be content if the current season was the show’s last.
“I think it’s really emotionally taxing, the making of it and the rollout of it,” he added.

Lee shared that Jinny Howe, who leads scripted series for Netflix in the US and Canada, consistently advised him to only keep making the show if he felt he had a compelling story to tell.
As I’ve expressed throughout the two seasons of Beef, I’m open to revisiting the show if a compelling opportunity arises in the future. I’m definitely not ruling it out.
The second season of Beef has earned a “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics giving it an 87% approval score based on 68 reviews. The first season is even more highly rated, currently holding a remarkable 98% score on the site.
