Interactive Brokers Brings Kalshi, CME, and ForecastEx Under One Roof

Key Highlights

  • Interactive Brokers introduced a unified interface for trading prediction market contracts.
  • Users can compare liquidity, pricing, and fees while routing orders for best execution automatically.
  • Interactive Brokers said it plans to expand access to additional prediction market exchanges in the future.

Interactive Brokers, a global brokerage firm, has launched a new platform that lets its clients trade on prediction markets. The IBKR Prediction Markets platform combines access to event contracts from three different U.S. exchanges – Kalshi, CME Group, and ForecastEx – into one easy-to-use interface.

The new feature lets clients instantly see how much of an asset is available to trade, compare pricing and fees from different exchanges, and automatically sends orders to the exchange with the best overall price. It’s built directly into Interactive Brokers’ current trading system, allowing users to manage all their investments – including stocks, options, futures, forex, crypto, and bonds – in one place.

Kalshi announced a new partnership with Interactive Brokers on X (formerly Twitter). This collaboration allows both everyday and professional investors to trade contracts on future events, all through a single platform. Kalshi described Interactive Brokers as one of the world’s largest brokers.

Platform focuses on high-interest event contracts

IBKR’s prediction markets offer a comprehensive solution with several benefits: easy access to various markets, reliable trade execution, the ability to trade different types of assets, a single view of your portfolio, and a robust, institutional-level platform. It primarily concentrates on popular topics like election results, climate-related events, and key economic data.

Following the launch of prediction markets, Interactive Brokers CEO Milan Galik explained that these markets are changing how investors view risk. He said the company decided to provide easy access to this growing market through their platform, offering the same convenience customers experience when trading stocks or options in the US.

IBKR’s new Prediction Markets offer the best features of other platforms, but with the security and reliability of IBKR’s existing systems. They plan to add support for more exchanges in the near future.

Tarek Mansour, CEO of Kalshi, highlighted that Interactive Brokers (IBKR) is a leading financial brokerage. He sees their partnership as proof that more and more experienced investors and financial firms are recognizing the value of prediction markets, and believes significant institutional growth is just beginning.

Growing prediction markets sector

Prediction markets are becoming increasingly popular, and more people are starting to participate. Hyperliquid recently joined the trend by launching ‘Outcome,’ a new prediction market feature, as part of its HIP-4 mainnet upgrade.

The platform began testing outcome trading in February, coinciding with the release of HIP-4 on its test network. This feature introduces fully collateralized contracts with set expiration dates, similar to easy-to-understand binary options.

Traders can buy shares representing a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ prediction, and receive payouts in USDH, the platform’s stablecoin. These contracts are different from traditional futures because they don’t involve leverage, meaning there’s no risk of losing more than your initial investment. Instead, the outcome is determined by price data from external sources at a specific time.

Regulatory considerations

Trading prediction market contracts is regulated, and certain rules about who can participate and where they can trade may apply.

This new platform represents another step forward for prediction markets within established brokerage firms. It’s important to consider how this technology might be used in the future, how it will be regulated, and what impact it could have on the financial world.
