How To Train Your Dragon 2 Crew Member Severely Injured in Production-Related Accident

An accident during off-set activities has resulted in a serious injury to a crew member working on How to Train Your Dragon 2.

I’m getting reports from the set of How to Train Your Dragon 2 that a crew member, apparently working in special effects, had a terrible accident. It seems they lost several fingers on one hand while working with a saw in the workshop at Sky Studios Elstree. I understand they underwent a lot of surgery, but unfortunately, the doctors weren’t able to reattach them. It’s a really unfortunate incident, and I’m sending my best wishes to the crew member for a full recovery.

Filming began in February at Sky Studios Elstree in the UK. Details about what happened are still unknown, and Universal Pictures hasn’t released a statement yet.

As a huge fan of animation, I was thrilled when Universal Pictures acquired the rights to the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy. It all started back in 2010 with the first film from DreamWorks Animation, which made nearly $495 million worldwide – a fantastic result! The second one, released in 2014, actually did even better, earning over $621 million globally. And the third film, which came out in 2019, still managed to pull in almost $520 million, proving how much people love these movies.

The original trilogy was so successful that a live-action remake was created. It proved to be a hit with audiences and actually earned more money than any other film in the series, bringing in $636.2 million globally.

I was so relieved to hear Dean DeBlois is coming back for How to Train Your Dragon 2! He’s amazing – he co-directed the first movie with Chris Sanders and then took the reins completely for the other two, writing and directing them himself. Knowing he’s back at the helm is a huge comfort, because he really gets this franchise.
