Honor of Kings Ziya Build Guide: Best Arcana, Spells, and Gameplay Tips
As a seasoned player with countless hours spent battling it out in the realm of Honor of Kings, I can confidently say that Ziya has become one of my favorite heroes to wield. With his unique abilities and mechanics, he offers a level of strategic depth that keeps me coming back for more.
In this guide for “Honor of Kings,” we’ll be focusing on the character Ziya, a trusted friend of Fuzi who has just joined the game. Known as a mage, Ziya specializes in dealing magical damage with skills that affect multiple targets at once. He excels at both mass damage and crowd control, seamlessly combining these abilities within his skill set. Despite his easy learning curve, mastering him may require some practice, but it’s definitely worth the effort! In this guide, we will explore Ziya’s abilities, optimal builds, and useful tips to give you an edge in the game.
If you like Ziya, you can also try heroes like Solarus, Lady Sun, Angela, and Alessio.
Skill Analysis of Ziya
Passive – Sanctification
In the strategic world of HOK, Ziya’s unique passive skill sets him apart from other heroes. This feature grants him Experience orbs upon vanquishing foes, enabling him to progress through levels more swiftly compared to his peers – a significant edge in late-game scenarios. At level 15, Ziya unveils an extraordinary ability dubbed Sanctify, which he can utilize only once.
Sanctify empowers Ziya to raise his teammate’s maximum level to 25. Consequently, during the later stages of the game, your team could potentially field not one but two level 25 heroes. In essence, Ziya’s passive and Sanctify make him a crucial addition to the team, and his abilities also make him an effective choice for the Support role in HOK.
Skill 1: Divine Seal (Enfeeble, Damage, Slow)
With Ziya, she molds her ability into a circular area, causing harm over time to any adversaries within the vicinity. Simultaneously, their movement speed and defense are diminished. However, Ziya herself experiences an increase in movement speed temporarily as well.
Skill 2: Divine Punishment (Crowd Control, Damage)
Ziya creates a circular area of effect that inflicts harm on nearby opponents with three successive strikes. Each strike causes damage and eventually, the circle detonates, dealing additional damage and sending adversaries flying into the air. It also features a brief cool-down period, making it an excellent ability to repeatedly use in team fights for enemy immobilization.
Skill 3: Universal Law (Damage)
As a gamer, I unleash a trio of shockwaves in the chosen direction. The initial two waves pack a solid punch, but it’s the third one that really gets the enemies on edge – it delivers a massive amount of damage. Once I hit level 15, the cooldown for this skill decreases, and if I time it right by quickly pressing my ultimate after casting, the shockwaves will go off instantly. Plus, these shockwaves can even take out towers from a safe distance, making them a handy tool for finishing off turrets.
Skill-up method for Ziya
As a gamer, I’d prioritize leveling up my skill number 2 first for both crowd control and damage output. Following that, I’ll focus on skill number 1. Whenever the opportunity arises, I won’t hesitate to unleash my ultimate ability.
Best Arcana build and Spells for Ziya in Honor of Kings
Arcana Build
The best Arcana Build for Ziya is:
[Nightmare (V)*10] + Mind’s Eye (V)*10 + [Harmony (V)*5 + Hunter (V)*5]
As a dedicated Late-game Mage, I find myself yearning for increased sustainability during the early stages of the game. Fortunately, the combination of “Hunter” and “Harmony” will ensure that Ziya receives an ample boost in both Health and Movement Speed. This duo significantly increases Ziya’s odds of surviving in the early game. For those who desire even more agility, consider opting for a 10-point investment in “Hunter”.
With the Mind’s Eye, Ziya becomes more effective against heroes with strong magical defense, as it amplifies the magical penetration, effectively weakening their defensive barriers. Meanwhile, Nightmare boosts Ziya’s overall magical damage output by enhancing her magical attack power.
Battle Spells
In situations where Ziya, being a character without abilities to dodge or boost speed, I’d advise utilizing either the “Sprint” or “Flash” moves for tactical retreats when necessary. This will aid in prolonging Ziya’s survival, particularly during moments when there’s no backup available.
Best Builds for Ziya in Honor of Kings
Ziya is a mage who excels in delivering area-of-effect damage. To maximize his performance, particularly during team fights, it’s crucial to optimize the items in your build towards enhancing his abilities even further. Here’s a suggested build that will assist you in maintaining both mana and health while dishing out damage, shredding tanks, and hindering enemy mobility as much as possible:
- Boots of the Arcane: These boots will help Ziya Regain Mana back every few seconds, which is very useful in the early game. Also, gives some Magic Pierce which helps in melting Magic Defence.
- Frozen Breath: This provides more Magic Attack and Cooldown Reduction. With passives like Deep Freeze and Frostbite Ziya will slow down enemies and deal more damage to the slowed enemies by hitting them with skills.
- Mask of Agony: This is a great item for Ziya as it gives him higher Magic Attack, Health, and Cooldown Reduction. It also has a passive called Torment that deals damage based on the enemy’s health. This is very useful against squishy (low max health) heroes.
- Savant’s Wrath: This item gives you a huge boost to your Magic Attack. It also has a passive called Doom that gives Ziya even more magic power.
- Void Staff: Provides Ziya with more Magic Attack and Health. It’s passive called Devastation helps Ziya to melt heroes with magic defence with more ease.
- Splendor: More Magic Attack and Cooldown Reduction. The passive is called Moonguard which will help Ziya gain immunity to everything for a short time, but you as a player can’t move or attack while it’s active. This is helpful when you are waiting for backup or your Cooldown to finish.
Ziya as Support Hero
In this discussion, we’ll explore an optimal setup for Ziya when playing him as a support character. Despite being primarily a mage hero, Ziya’s passive abilities and crowd control skills make him versatile enough to excel in a supporting role too.
This build build will ensure survivability while dealing good magic damage to enemies:
- Boots of the Arcane
- Frozen Breath
- Holy Grail
- Tome of Wisdom
- Twilight Stream
- Venomous Staff
Honor of Kings Ziya Gameplay Tips
As a Ziya gamer, I find it wise to play defensively during early games as much as possible, while still being ready for team fights, since Ziya is an overall damage dealer who excels in this role. In terms of gameplay, Ziya’s abilities can be broken down into three stages: early, mid, and late game. However, to maximize any hero’s potential, including Ziya, a player needs to have a solid comprehension of the map.
Early Game
Initially, focus on acquiring the “Boots of the Arcane” and make your way towards the mid-lane. Activate your second skill initially, and aim to stay close enough to your turret while clearing the initial horde of minions. Attack the opponent only when you have backup from your ally, ensuring that both you and your ally are within range of each other and your turret as well.
Once you’ve activated your first ability, aim to attack enemies repeatedly using both skills. As you do this, you’ll gain extra movement speed with your first skill. Make sure to frequently check the map and stay near your teammates for support when needed. Don’t forget to take out minion waves and gather the EXP light orbs that appear.
Mid Game
During this stage, each player should have completed their initial farming and acquired most of their required items apart from boots. This is when players begin to move around more, leading to an increase in team battles. Try to join these fights but maintain a safe distance so you can retreat if necessary.
1. Be cautious about moving too much in the jungle unless you have a companion to back you up. Remember, it’s crucial to continue gathering Experience Orbs. This will strengthen your late game and give you an opportunity to support your team by securing kills, as they also yield Experience Orbs.
Late Game
As a Ziya player, it’s time for you to showcase your value! Once you reach level 15, you’ll unlock a unique skill called “Sanctify”. This skill can be used just once, and it offers an incredible benefit: it raises your ally’s level cap to a maximum of level 25. My suggestion is to use this powerful ability wisely, either on the player who’s leading the game or the supportive player.
Remember to actively participate in team battles by dishing out damage and impeding the enemy’s progress whenever you can, as Ziya has a minimal cooldown on skills that allow for frequent use. This strategy will net you EXP orbs, which aid Ziya in reaching level 25 and gaining 20 Magical Attacks with each level increase. Therefore, Ziya will accumulate 200 additional Magical Attacks from levels 15 to 25.
Always employ your first ability to slow down enemies by up to 35%, and make liberal use of your second skill to launch enemies into the air for 0.75 seconds. A useful strategy for players is to combine these abilities effectively to dominate the battlefield.
Skill 1 + Skill 2 + Ulti + Basic Attack

Final Thoughts
Ziya is an exceptional character in the lineup of Honor of Kings, offering more than just a mage role due to his distinctive passive and level features. He may not be the most straightforward hero to learn, but with dedicated practice, you, as a player, can shape the game according to your preferences in HOK.
In the early stages, concentrate on farming and survival strategies, and you’ll find success in the late game. Experiment with various approaches and character builds to discover what suits you best. Remember, part of the fun is the journey itself! By the way, Ziya becomes a blast to play once you get familiar with him.
