The latest update, Version 3.4, of the game Honkai: Star Rail has introduced a highly acclaimed character from the collaboration with Fate/Stay Night, Saber., who is now available as a 5-star character. This guide will provide you with an easy-to-understand overview of how to make the most out of Saber’s abilities and offer suggestions for optimal configurations to enhance her performance in the game.

Saber Kit Breakdown

Unit “Saber” is a specialized Wind Destruction character, boasting impressive base stats and an exceptional kit that centers around the creation and expenditure of “Core Resonance” energy. This energy mechanism fuels potent skill effects and keeps the character in a near-perpetual cycle of skills, ultimate abilities, and enhanced basic attacks.

Her ability harnesses both instantaneous and future energy through the process called Core Resonance. Once her accumulated potential energy reaches 360, she amplifies her skill, regains energy, and quickly follows up with an ultimate. This structure encourages careful energy conservation and can result in massive damage turns when utilized effectively.

She deals devastating blows to all opponents, followed by a series of 10 powerful bouncing attacks. Next, she activates a widespread enhanced basic attack that inflicts massive damage if there are fewer foes. This basic attack also boosts the generation of Core Resonance, maintaining the energy cycle.

Saber’s passive abilities enhance her performance significantly, offering her additional energy storage capacity, powerful CRIT bonuses, and compatibility with frequent ally ultimates. This makes her both self-reliant and team-dependent in the right configurations. Essentially, Saber functions like a momentum-driven machine. Start cautiously, gradually build up Core Resonance, and once you reach the critical point, you’ll be able to swiftly chain skills, ultimates, and enhanced basics one after another. Her arsenal is rich, but once you grasp the rhythm, she transforms into a bursty powerhouse with excellent area-of-effect damage and robust boss damage potential.

Honkai Star Rail Saber Best Relics and Planar Ornaments

When it comes to statistical goals for this character, aim for approximately 135 Speed points, between 2500 and 3000 Attack points, and achieve a Critical Rate of 100% in combat (taking into account the 20% she already gets from her A2 ability). Critical Damage can be adjusted as needed; focus more on hitting your Critical Rate and Attack targets for optimal performance, as this character has a tendency to self-buff heavily and gain significantly from her team.

  • Body: Crit DMG
  • Feet: SPD/ATK%
  • Planar Spear: DMG%/ATK%
  • Link Rope: ATK%

Relic Set

Wavestrider CaptainThe best option is the new Wavestrider set, which gives her a 48% ATK buff after every ultimate. It’s perfect since her whole kit revolves around ulting often. This buff also applies to her enhanced basic attack and can carry over to boost her next skill if you ult on her turn.
Scholar Lost in EruditionIf you don’t have Wavestrider, Scholar of Erudition is still solid, offering consistent buffs to both skill and ultimate damage, with a bonus skill buff after each ult.
Musketeer of Wild Wheat/Eagle of Twilight LineOpt for the 2-piece if you have the above sets fully farmed.

Planar Ornaments

Firmament Frontline: Glamoth/Inert Salsotto/Rutilant ArenaWhen it comes to planar ornaments, Saber is flexible. You can go with any strong generalist DPS set like Rutilant Arena, Glamoth, Space Sealing Station, or Inert Salsotto, just pick the one with the best stats you’ve farmed.

Honkai Star Rail Saber Best Light Cone

A Thankless Coronation (Saber Signature 5* Light Cone)Saber’s best Light Cone is undoubtedly her signature, which gives her a flat 36% CRIT DMG and a massive 40% ATK buff for 2 turns after using her ultimate. On top of that, because her max energy is over 300, she gets another 40% ATK buff and restores 10% of her max energy every time she ults, translating to 36 Energy per ult.

This not only boosts her damage directly but also helps smooth out her rotation by making it easier to hit her energy thresholds consistently.

Her signature is a clear upgrade over F2P options, not just in raw numbers but also in how it stabilizes her entire playstyle.

The extra energy lets her keep up with advance-forward strategies and ult more frequently, something that isn’t always reflected in pure damage calcs but becomes very noticeable in practice. If you can get her signature, it adds a huge layer of consistency and damage scaling to her entire kit.

Thus Burns the Dawn (5* Light Cone)Very High Base ATK. Second-best option for Saber.
On the Fall of an Aeon (5*)The Light Cone from the Herta store is still totally viable.
A Trail of Bygone Blood (4*)The Battle Pass Light Cone is a good 4-Star option.
Under the Blue Sky (4*)The most F2P option, but will lose a lot of damage compared to his S1.

Best Team Comps for Saber in Honkai Star Rail

Saber thrives in teams that can help her maintain her energy loop and maximize her action economy.

Saber, Sunday/Bronya, Robin, Huohuo/Hyacine

In a hypercarry configuration, the optimal team composition typically includes Saber as the primary damage dealer, accompanied by a buffer, a debuff/support unit, and a healer. Sunday is an exceptional support character due to his large energy reservoir; when he uses his ultimate ability, it grants Saber a significant boost of approximately 72 energy points, which plays a vital role in consistently meeting her Core Resonance energy thresholds.

His forward-moving mechanism aligns flawlessly with her consecutive moves. If you don’t have Sunday available, Bronya makes a robust substitute. Although she doesn’t provide energy, her boosts still positively impact Saber significantly, and the SP economy isn’t heavily stressed in Saber-based teams.

As a dedicated fan, I’d confidently say that Robin is an exceptional choice for secondary support. She offers a significant attack boost that my beloved Saber truly benefits from. Moreover, her Concerto ultimate allows Saber to take consecutive turns, perfectly synchronizing with Saber’s consume skill and ultimate combos. It’s a match made in strategic heaven!

Tingyun is another excellent choice, particularly if you don’t have Robin. She increases Saber’s attack power and also supplies energy, making her a reliable and versatile support. Rememberance Trailblazer (RMC) is an outstanding free-to-play option, especially when combined with Sunday. With skillful manual play and proper timing for rotations, RMC can advance Saber and accumulate True DMG buffs for massive burst damage potential.

To ensure success, Huohuo stands out as Saber’s most versatile character. She distributes energy to all team members, boosts Saber’s Core Resonance through her ultimate ability, and maintains the overall team’s rhythm. Gallagher is a dependable free-to-play healer, capable of catering to Saber’s requirements with adaptable Light Cone setups. If you find yourself in stages weak against Wind, Hyacine can serve dual purposes as both a healer and sub-DPS, seamlessly fitting into the team while inflicting damage herself.

Is Saber worth pulling in HSR

To put it simply, she’s quite reliable, neither flawed nor frail. In games like “Memory of Chaos” and “Apocalyptic Shadow”, she delivers robust ultimate damage and good wave-clearing performance consistently. However, be aware that her advanced maneuvers might feel a bit awkward, particularly when combined with specific ally ultimates or timed enemy attacks. It requires some practice to find the right rhythm with her.

As a devoted fan, I can attest that she harmonizes exceptionally well with teams focused on energy, and her value could escalate significantly as the game progressively incorporates more energy batteries and supportive elements. She doesn’t overpower the meta, but once you get accustomed to her rhythm, she proves to be a trustworthy and fulfilling character to play. In the fictional realm of Pure Fiction, while she may not rival the top-tier nuclear units, her area-of-effect ultimate, bouncing abilities, and empowered basics grant her robust multi-target utility, particularly as a Destruction unit.
