Heartstopper Forever, the final farewell for the beloved Netflix show, confirms its release date

Great news for Heartstopper fans! Netflix has officially announced that the final season will premiere on July 17th. The announcement came with a sweet video showing pictures of the cast and was shared on social media with the show’s iconic falling leaf emojis.

The announcement came just as fans were celebrating the four-year anniversary of the show’s debut on Netflix, making it a particularly meaningful moment for those who have followed Nick and Charlie’s story and the lives of their friends.

After season three launched in 2024, viewers eagerly awaited news about the future of Heartstopper, the series adapted from Alice Oseman’s popular books. In April 2025, Netflix finally announced that the story would continue with a feature-length movie, giving fans a proper conclusion to the Heartstopper gang’s journey.

Oseman hinted at a touching and heartfelt conclusion for Nick and Charlie’s story. They also expressed a desire for the final film to be a celebration of Heartstopper and its impact, offering fans a chance to bid farewell to the characters while giving glimpses into their futures.

The final season of Heartstopper, titled Heartstopper Forever, will explore the challenges Nick and Charlie face as their relationship evolves. Nick is getting ready to go to university, while Charlie is becoming more independent at school, and they’re starting to feel the strain of being in a long-distance relationship.

The couple is struggling with serious doubts, putting their relationship to the test. At the same time, their friends are dealing with the complexities of love and friendship as they mature and face the difficulties of change. This raises the question: can young love truly last?

The show will also feature returning cast members Yasmin Finney as Elle, William Gao as Tao, Corinna Brown as Tara, Kizzy Edgell as Darcy, Tobie Donovan as Isaac, Rhea Norwood as Imogen, Leila Khan as Sahar, and Jenny Walser as Tori, Charlie’s sister.

Olivia Colman, known for her role as Charlie’s mum in previous seasons, won’t be returning for Heartstopper Forever. Unfortunately, she was unavailable to film the final season.

Alice Oseman, the creator and writer of the Heartstopper series, said it was crucial to include Nick’s mother, Sarah, in the story from the start of working on the screenplay (according to Tudum).

Unfortunately, Olivia Colman wasn’t available to continue with the film, so we had to make the tough choice to find a new actor for the part instead of removing the character altogether. We’re incredibly thankful for Olivia’s wonderful portrayal of Sarah in the first and second seasons of Heartstopper, especially memorable moments like Nick coming out as bisexual, and we know her performance will always be cherished by fans of the show.

Anna Maxwell Martin, known for her role in Motherland, will be taking on the part of Sarah in Heartstopper Forever. Creator Alice Oseman shared that Anna captures Sarah’s kind and relatable personality perfectly, and her scenes with Kit Connor were wonderful to film.
