The new Netflix thriller, Unchosen, starring Christopher Eccleston and Siobhan Finneran, is now streaming. With just six episodes, it’s a great choice for a weekend binge, especially if you enjoy suspenseful stories similar to those by Harlan Coben.
Julie Gearey, who has previously written for shows like Secret Diary of a Call Girl and Coronation Street, created Unchosen. The series focuses on a close-knit community that has deliberately isolated itself. The story begins with a peaceful scene of the group enjoying a meal outdoors, but an approaching storm hints at the trouble to come.
Rosie, portrayed by Molly Windsor, is a wife and mother whose daughter disappears when the weather unexpectedly turns violent. Although she’s instructed to remain with the other women while the men search, she trusts her gut and disobeys orders, venturing into the forest herself to find her child.

Her daughter accidentally fell into the river, but luckily, a visiting stranger happened to be nearby and rescued her.
When a man named Sam (played by Fra Fee, known from BBC’s Lost Boys and Fairies and Prime Video’s Prime Target) arrives, fleeing his past, it makes Rosie start to seriously question everything around her.
What to Read Next
Asa Butterfield, known for his role in Sex Education, is now playing Rosie’s husband – a man strongly committed to his community and its values. This is his first television project since Sex Education finished in 2024, and it’s a significant change from his previous character, Otis Milburn. Unchosen gives him the opportunity to portray a much different and more complex character.
Christopher Eccleston (known from Doctor Who) and Siobhan Finneran (Happy Valley) play the enigmatic Mr. and Mrs. Phillips, who appear to be the leaders of the group and strictly enforce its rules. These rules mainly focus on isolating everyone from the outside world and those they consider outsiders – people who don’t share their way of life.

Netflix described Unchosen as a psychological thriller, and it lives up to that description.
The story is full of surprising twists and turns – some good, some not so good – and often heads in directions you wouldn’t predict. This makes it a great choice for readers who enjoy mystery novels similar to those by Harlan Coben.
Featuring a compelling cast and intriguing character development, we expect Unchosen to quickly become a top 10 hit.
Unchosen is available on Netflix now.
