As a lifelong film enthusiast who has spent countless hours poring over director wish lists and eagerly anticipating the next big project, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia and excitement upon learning about the reimagining of “Killroy Was Here.” The original 1987 film, with its moderate box office success and mixed reviews, has undeniably gained cult status over the years.

Three long years have passed since the announcement that Edgar Wright would be reimagining “The Running Man,” and at last, the cameras are rolling! As a diehard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement as this project comes to life before my eyes.

Actor Glenn Powell was recently seen working at the renowned Battersea Power Station in London, where he will portray the part previously played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 action movie.

Glenn donned a style reminiscent of the ’80s, with a hoodie beneath a denim shirt and a brown jacket, perfectly fitting for his role as Ben Richards.

As a die-hard fan, I was utterly captivated by the spectacle of my beloved film’s production transforming a renowned London landmark into its very own police state. Outside, guards in uniform stood watch, mirroring the ominous atmosphere of the movie set.

In addition to wearing a mask, this mysterious figure could be spotted capturing scenes while running rapidly about the structure, occasionally bumping into background actors.

The acclaimed British filmmaker, Wright, is undertaking a monumental endeavor: reimagining a much-loved action movie, which originates from Stephen King’s book, under the pen name Richard Bachman.

In this movie, the setting is a bleak future society, where a popular television program focuses on individuals known as ‘runners,’ who are evading hired assassins due to their criminal pasts.

In Schwarzenegger’s film, the story unfolds within the U.S. from 2017 to 2019. As of now, Wright hasn’t specified the timeframe or shared details about how his adaptation will interpret the original movie.

Since 2021, the highly-acclaimed director has been connected with this project, expressing his strong desire to remake it, which he identified as his top choice for a film reinterpretation.

Additionally, John Brolin, William H. Macy, and Scott Pilgrim’s Wright have been added to the ensemble that includes Michael Cera.

During an interview with IndieWire over the summer, Powell shared insights about his role in the project, expressing his excitement: ‘I will be filming The Running Man this coming fall.’

‘We’ve been going back and forth on script stuff, and it’s so fun.’

“Edgar’s creation in this project is simply amazing! It’s fantastic, and we both are huge fans of the Stephen King novel that it’s adapted from. We’re really looking forward to seeing how the character turns out. I can’t wait for it!

For years, the actor has held Wright, the director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, at the pinnacle of his wishlist for potential collaborators. He expressed this during an interview.

‘I recently looked through my emails, and specifically, I searched for Edgar Wright within them. It turned out that back in 2008, when I relocated to LA, I had compiled a list of directors I aspired to collaborate with. This list was sent to my agent at the time, and guess who was ranked first? None other than Edgar Wright himself.’

I absolutely love Edgar Wright’s work, and the chance to collaborate with him at this moment feels incredibly awesome!

Since its modest theatrical release in 1987 and mixed responses from film critics, the initial film, helmed by Paul Michael Glaser, has since garnered a devoted following, earning it cult status.
