Jodie Sweetin, known for her role on Full House, recently shared how much money she continues to earn from the show’s reruns, following Lisa Kudrow‘s revelation that the Friends cast still makes $20 million annually from the show.
Last week, the 44-year-old actress discussed a sensitive topic on The McBride Rewind podcast. She openly shared her thoughts after recently acknowledging differing political opinions with Candace Cameron Bure.
The actress is best known for playing Stephanie Tanner on the popular ABC sitcom that ran from 1987 to 1995. She later returned to the role in the Netflix sequel, Fuller House, which aired from 2016 to 2020.
Sweetin recently revealed she received a residual check for just one penny, which she found surprisingly low.
She recently received a check for just one cent. She explained this was because traditional broadcast syndication is largely gone, replaced by streaming services, and it’s unclear who, if anyone, is compensated for content on those platforms.
Sweetin clarified that the money she continues to receive from Full House isn’t as substantial as many might think.
The actress explained to the podcast host that she used to receive different amounts in residual payments when she was starting out.
When I was in my twenties, I had some income, but it wasn’t consistent. It was hard to predict how much money I’d make or when I’d actually receive it.
Sweetin explained that reactions to kindness can vary – sometimes it feels good just to acknowledge a small gesture, while other times it’s enough to warrant a special treat, like a nice dinner.
The celebrity said you can’t depend on it, and then added that she doesn’t live a lavish lifestyle.
I often tell people, ‘Look, I drive a used 2023 Hyundai Sonata that I really enjoy. I don’t own my home – I rent – and I carry a balance on my credit cards.’ It’s just a pretty typical life.
Sweetin explained that things don’t always go smoothly, saying, ‘Sometimes it feels great, and other times you really need to consider getting a more stable job.’
The cast of Full House featured John Stamos, the late Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, Candace Cameron Bure, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Lori Loughlin, and Andrea Barber, alongside the main actress.
The show ran for eight seasons, concluding in 1995. It centered on a father (Saget) raising his three daughters, with help from his brother-in-law (Stamos) and best friend (Coulier), all living under one roof.
Several years after the original series, a sequel called Fuller House premiered on Netflix in 2016. Most of the original cast members reprised their roles, but Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen did not participate.
In the podcast interview, Sweetin was asked about the possibility of appearing in another Full House project.
She jokingly said they always tease each other that if they did another show, it would be called “Fuller Fullest House,” and they’d all be very old, needing help from their kids with everyday things.
But the actress added that she ‘will never say never to anything.’
If I had the chance to work with these lifelong friends again in another twenty years, I absolutely would.
Sweetin then reflected on the impact the sitcom has on viewers.
The actor expressed their deep appreciation for Full House, noting its lasting impact and the positive connection it has with viewers. They shared, ‘It’s not just a show, it’s something special to people.’
As I’ve grown older and gained more life experience, I’ve realized how crucial it is to maintain a connection to the carefree part of yourself from childhood.
Sweetin also shared that she’s happy to continue being a part of the positive impact ‘Full House’ has, in any way she can.
Last week, Lisa Kudrow surprised fans by sharing just how much money she and her fellow cast members from Friends continue to earn each year from the show’s continued popularity.
Lisa Kudrow is known for her role as the quirky Phoebe Buffay on the popular TV show Friends, which aired from 1994 to 2004 for ten seasons. She acted alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and the late Matthew Perry.
The show’s actors famously worked together to increase their pay. They started at $22,500 per episode in season one and, by the last two seasons, were each earning an impressive $1 million per episode.
The cast came back together for a special reunion episode on HBO Max in 2021, and sources say each of them earned around $2.5 million for the appearance.
Okay, so everyone was shocked by how much we all made per episode towards the end, right? But honestly? That’s nothing compared to what keeps coming in! Apparently, the real money is in syndication – you know, when it’s on all over the world, forever. Courteney told me it’s a constant flow of income, and it completely dwarfs those big checks we got for actually filming the show. It’s insane! We’re still making money from it years later, and it just…keeps going! I can’t even wrap my head around it.
In a recent interview with The Times, actress Lisa Kudrow shared that the cast of her show, The Comeback, continues to earn an impressive $20 million annually from residuals.
During the interview, Kudrow also talked about why the show still earns so much money from reruns and streaming, and she believes its lasting popularity is well-deserved.
Kudrow said that revisiting the show after Matthew’s passing gave her a new perspective. Previously, she’d only focused on her own performance and what she could have improved, but this time she was able to simply enjoy how wonderful it was.
Matthew Perry died on October 28, 2023, at age 54, due to the effects of ketamine.
It was a truly exceptional moment, created by someone with incredible talent. Nothing we experience in the future will ever quite compare.
I thought I did alright, but Jennifer and Courteney were incredible! David and Matt had me in stitches, and Matthew was just on another level entirely.
