Details about the storyline and launch date for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” have surfaced, and there’s a split among fans regarding the new plot revolving around Meryl Streep’s character, Miranda Priestly, who is portrayed as an icy queen.

In the next installment, Meryl Streep’s renowned character will face the complexities of a struggling print magazine world.

Additionally, she will encounter Blunt’s character, who is currently a prominent executive within a luxury conglomerate with substantial advertising budgets that Priestly urgently requires, according to Variety.

Following the announcement made a year ago, it has been confirmed that a follow-up to the 2006 comedy-drama featuring Meryl Streep (aged 75), Anne Hathaway (aged 42), and Emily Blunt (also 42) will be produced by Disney.

In February 2024, during the 30th Screen Actors Guild Awards, the three actresses came together on stage to perform a comedy sketch that was inspired by their popular film from the previous year.

Just Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt have been officially announced as reprising their roles in the upcoming sequel, slated for release in theaters on May 1, 2026.

With the storyline and release date finally unveiled, fans are sharing their mixed reactions. 

In July last year, it was announced that Meryl Streep would reunite with Emily Blunt, however, no additional cast members have been officially verified as of now.

In simpler terms, Stanley Tucci, who was in the initial film, talked about the upcoming sequel, but he didn’t reveal whether he would be taking on his character again for this new movie.

‘I am aware they are dealing with it. If progress is made, I would be overjoyed, but unfortunately, I can’t provide any details. If not, I might have to take some dramatic action.’

‘[The original] was one of the best experiences ever,’ he added.

Regarding the film, released two decades following its predecessor, numerous enthusiasts expressed their anticipation while commending its “authentic” narrative progression.

On the contrary, some people strongly disagreed with the notion of producing another film as a continuation, instead expressing dissatisfaction towards unimaginative sequels.

The film “The Devil Wears Prada,” released in 2006, takes its inspiration from Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name. This novel tells the story of a struggling journalist who endures a challenging work life within the realm of a fashion magazine.

Previously, Weisberger served as an assistant to the editor of American Vogue, Anna Wintour. However, it’s important to note that she has not confirmed in any way that the character Priestly mirrors her former employer.

Indeed, she made it clear that her book blends elements of fiction with accounts inspired by her own experiences and those of her friends during their early careers.

Streep starred as Miranda Priestly, the icy editor-in-chief of the fictional Runway magazine. 

In a more casual and simplified manner: Hathaway portrayed Andrea Sachs, a recent graduate from journalism school, who snagged the dream job many young women covet, working as an assistant to the powerful figure, Priestly.

In that setting, she encounters the hurdle of serving a demanding supervisor who frequently criticizes her perceived lack of style and flair in dress.

In this context, she grapples with the difficulty of working for a tough boss who often points out that she doesn’t seem to have any sense of fashion or style.

Or:
There, she struggles against the challenge posed by her demanding superior, who frequently voices disapproval of her seemingly poor fashion choices and lack of personal style.

In the story, Priestley’s initial aid is Blunt, who guides Andy in her learning process. On the other hand, Tucci portrays Nigel, a seasoned fashion editor who assists Andy in overhauling her wardrobe and regaining her self-assurance once more.

‘Oooh this is going to be good,’ one person tweeted. ‘Yep. I’m interested for part 2.’ 

One social media user expressed their genuine affection for something on X prior to offering a proposal for an upcoming film, adding that they’d also appreciate another origin tale for a character named Miranda.

‘Can’t wait to see Miranda back,’ another X user shared. 

One fan commented, “That’s really an intriguing foundation,” with another fan concurring, “Yes, it certainly seems promising.

Another fan can hardly contain their excitement to see the actors, and they commented that the storyline mirrors today’s challenging circumstances. They’re hoping she will be a tough character.

Another fan joked that they ‘can’t wait’ to see whether somebody is ‘definitely getting fired.’ 

While some enthusiasts were thrilled by the plot twist, others were equally disappointed that a sequel was planned.

One fan tweeted: ‘The sequel will never match the original. Why?’ 

‘NO ONE ASKED FOR THAT! Stop destroying great movies with useless sequels,’ another X user wrote. 

‘We don’t need this,’ one person said in agreement with the criticism. 

One individual strongly objected to the suggestion of a sequel, exclaiming, “This has to be a joke!” They lamented that it seemed as though all creative endeavors were merely receiving second installments, and there were no fresh ideas left.

Clearly tired of more sequels, this person expressed their displeasure, particularly towards upcoming ones based on timeless movies.”

One individual expressed frustration on Twitter, stating that Hollywood keeps recycling old ideas due to their risk-averse nature.
