Emily Atack talks filming full frontal nudity scene in racy new period drama

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for binge-watching television shows, I can confidently say that the upcoming Disney+ series, ‘Rivals’, has piqued my interest like none other! The tantalizing mix of politics, drama, and nudity (yes, you read that right) in this steamy 80s adaptation promises to deliver an unforgettable viewing experience.

In simpler terms, Emily Atack discussed her experience shooting an explicit nude scene for the upcoming steamy ’80s series titled “Rivals,” which will be available on Disney+.

Previously from “The Inbetweeners,” the actor takes on the role of Sarah Stratton, who utilizes her influence as the spouse of a key government official (portrayed by Rufus Jones) to secure a position as a television host.

Initially, Sarah’s character appears on screen while she’s engaging in a game of tennis, but it’s not an ordinary game. She’s playing against Rupert Campbell-Black, portrayed by Alex Hassell, in a scene that sets the tone for the storyline.

This game of stark-naked tennis is an infamous scene from the Jilly Cooper novel of the same name, which Rivals is an adaptation of.

In a chat with Digital Spy prior to the show’s premiere, Atack expressed concern upon initially reading the script because she thought she might need to master tennis playing.

She said: “It wasn’t, ‘I’m gonna have to run around a tennis court completely starkers’. But, I like a big entrance. I was like, ‘Yeah, bring it on’.

Although it might seem like we frequently include nudity and sex scenes for their own sake, they always serve a purpose in the narrative. These scenes are never included haphazardly; instead, they are deeply woven into the plot and character development.

In further conversation, Attack mentioned that upon meeting Hassell, there was an immediate connection, and she felt entirely at ease around him – not just him, but also the entire crew and director Hegarty.

Discussing the filming process, she mentioned, “By that point, we were quite familiar with one another. In fact, those who had intimate or explicit scenes, we all took great comfort in each other’s presence. We enjoyed discussing our experiences. It felt empowering and secure.

I hadn’t encountered intimacy coordinators before, but it was truly enlightening to witness their presence, showcasing the significant strides we’ve made in this area.

Never have I felt so at ease and well taken care of, and let me tell you, it was an absolute blast! It was during the beautiful summer season, pleasantly warm. I sported a fabulous sunless tan, ready for the excitement ahead!

In her explanation, Attack disclosed that she donned a merkin during the filming and later rewound to check if she was okay with the amount of exposure.

According to them, I had the opportunity to share my thoughts, which was great, said Atack. However, it turned out just as expected. After all, I’m an actress, carrying out my duties, performing a part.

Rivals launches exclusively on Disney+ on October 18.
