Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are reportedly expats in the U.K. — because Trump?

As a movie lover with a keen eye for celebrity real estate and a soft spot for heartwarming tales of resilience, I find Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi‘s latest move to be nothing short of intriguing. The dynamic duo has always had a deep affection for Montecito, investing in no less than 21 properties over the years. However, their recent decision to uproot their lives and relocate to the U.K., reportedly due to the reelection of a certain ex-president, is a testament to their unwavering spirit.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi flippin’ love Montecito.

They indeed do own or have invested in at least 21 properties within the area. However, they’ve decided to leave Santa Barbara County behind.

Previously residents of Montecito, these individuals have become expatriates following the re-election of a particular former president, according to The Wrap. Now, DeGeneres and De Rossi call the United Kingdom their home.

The duo are keen property enthusiasts, constantly purchasing and reselling homes, particularly preferring the Santa Barbara region over others in the vicinity of L.A.

According to Site Line, a company that monitors high-end real estate in the region, it was reported in February that DeGeneres and De Rossi have invested at least $350 million in properties within the Santa Barbara area since 2006.

Despite the severe flooding, they remained resolute and unwilling to leave Montecito. Ellen DeGeneres shared a video of the turbulent waters near her house in January 2023, marking the fifth anniversary of the tragic mudslides that occurred in the region.

It seems that the prospect of President-elect Donald Trump regaining control in the White House poses a new degree of disaster for the 66-year-old comedian and her 51-year-old actor spouse. As a result, they have chosen to relocate to a rural area in England.

After November 5th, it seems they managed to move so swiftly; however, according to TMZ, they had already purchased a new property, roughly two hours from London, prior to the election. Following Trump’s win, they chose to leave, apparently without making up their minds about the price for their Montecito home yet.

Still, this move could be an empowering one for DeGeneres. She’s leaving the U.S. by choice — not being kicked out.

In a light-hearted manner during her Netflix special titled “For Your Approval,” she humorously comments: “I was given the boot from the world of entertainment.” She adds, alluding to herself, “Apparently, ‘the nice girl’ I portrayed wasn’t as gracious in real life.

Ellen DeGeneres addressed the recent uproar concerning accusations of a hostile work environment on the set of her popular talk show, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” In her closing remarks for every episode, she would always encourage viewers, “Please treat each other with kindness.

If I had signed off with an unconventional phrase like, “Take care, now,” people might be delightfully taken aback to discover that beneath the edgy exterior, there’s a kind-hearted soul lurking. (Cinephile speaking here)

In her stand-up performance in L.A. last April, as reported by Rolling Stone, Ellen DeGeneres acknowledged that the scandal had caused some impact on her. She expressed that it took a toll on both her self-confidence and self-worth. Additionally, she highlighted the intense nature of the entertainment industry where one can either be admired or criticized to such an extent.

Perhaps living in the Cotswolds will help DeGeneres to heal.

Flipping castles might be therapeutic.
