Dungeon Crawler Carl is officially taking over a whole new format thanks to and Webtoon.

May 2nd was a big day for comic book fans with Free Comic Book Day, and it also marked the debut of Dungeon Crawler Carl in print from Vault Comics. This first issue, written by Matt Dinniman and Tevagah with art from a talented team, adapts the popular Webtoon series and includes extra content that fans are sure to enjoy.

The story started as a self-published novel by Matt Dinniman in 2020. It follows Carl, a former Coast Guard member, and Princess Donut, his ex-girlfriend’s cat, as they navigate a world devastated by an alien invasion that has nearly wiped out humanity. They are among the few people left alive.

The Borant Corporation, an alien entity that has rebuilt the world, now forces the remaining humans to compete in Dungeon Crawler World, a galactic reality show. Contestants must fight their way through a massive, Earth-built labyrinth. As Carl navigates the game – which plays like a role-playing game – he also becomes a rebel, determined to dismantle the corporate system that destroyed his former life.

What’s Next For Dungeon Crawler Carl?

So, I heard back in April that Peacock is making a new show! It’s being produced by Seth MacFarlane, and the premise is wild. Basically, aliens have wrecked Earth and most of us are gone, and the survivors are forced to compete in this crazy, messed-up game show… for their lives. And get this – I’m supposed to play this whole thing barefoot, with a snobby, talking cat wearing a tiara as my teammate. Seriously, a tiara-wearing cat! Sounds like a nightmare, but I’m definitely intrigued.

In Dungeon Crawler Carl, the story follows Coast Guard veteran Carl who unexpectedly ends up with his ex-girlfriend’s prize-winning cat, Princess Donut, when the apocalypse hits. They’re trapped in a televised reality show version of Earth, where they must battle monsters, aliens, a rogue AI, and even other people—all for the sake of entertainment. Surviving is a bonus, but good TV is a must!
