Dragon Quest Smash/Grow is a new action roguelite game from Square Enix that blends the beloved style of classic RPGs with fast-paced gameplay. It’s easy to dodge attacks with simple controls, but building a powerful team of three characters is key to winning in the long run.
Simply throwing together a team of your favorite heroes usually won’t be enough to beat the challenging Shrine bosses, so a little strategy is key. This guide will show you the most effective party combinations, explaining how the five main character classes work together. We’ll also cover which teams are best for different ways of playing and for efficiently collecting resources.
Dragon Quest Smash/Grow Best Party Tier List
Creating a strong team of three characters is key to winning. Simply picking heroes at random won’t work – they need to work well together. Different character classes naturally combine effectively in battle.
Success in this game comes down to balancing attacking enemies, controlling the battlefield, and keeping your team alive. I’ve put together a list of the most effective combinations, using all five character classes, to help you start winning immediately!
| Tier | Party Combo | Playstyle Focus | Party Combo | Playstyle Focus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strong (S) | Warrior, Thief, Mage | Balanced Wave Clearing and Magic | Martial Artist, Mage, Priest | Ultimate Boss Killing and Healing |
| Good (A) | Thief, Mage, Priest | Extreme Crowd Control and Utility | Warrior, Martial Artist, Priest | Safe Melee Brawling and Survival |
| Average (B) | Warrior, Warrior, Priest | Heavy Tanking and Slow Progression | NA | NA |
Dragon Quest Smash/Grow Best Party to pick
S-Tier – Martial Artist, Mage, Priest
These top-tier characters are incredibly powerful! The combination of a Martial Artist, Mage, and Priest delivers amazing damage to single targets. Specifically, the Martial Artist excels at quickly defeating bosses when fighting up close.
As a fan, I love how the Mage really shines at keeping enemies at bay, controlling the battlefield from afar. And the Priest? They’re a lifesaver, always hanging back and casting those essential heals to keep the whole team going!
A-Tier – Thief, Mage, Priest
I enjoy playing strategically and love to trick my opponents. That’s why I prefer a team made up of the Thief, Mage, and Priest – they’re all about support and staying alive.
The Priest is great at keeping the team healthy with constant healing, while the Thief can reliably stun groups of enemies. This combination takes some skillful maneuvering, but it’s very effective in Gauntlet mode.
B-Tier – Warrior, Warrior, Priest
Early in the game, it was common to see teams built around two Warriors and a Priest. This combination makes your team very durable and able to withstand most attacks. However, these teams often struggle to deal significant damage.
Battles will likely be lengthy, and you may find the time limits on Shrine bosses challenging. It’s best to build a strong team – ideally one ranked S-Tier or A-Tier – as quickly as you can.
Best Party by Player Goals
Players approach the endgame in different ways. If your main goal is to quickly complete levels and collect resources, the best team is Warrior, Thief, and Mage. This combination is exceptionally fast at clearing enemies.
For getting through tough challenges, a team made up of the Warrior, Martial Artist, and Priest is the most reliable choice. They’re incredibly resilient when things get intense.
To defeat tough Shrine bosses quickly, a team of Martial Artist, Mage, and Priest is ideal. This combination provides powerful, focused damage alongside consistent healing support.
Final Thoughts
Creating a great team takes effort and experimentation. While the most popular setups right now focus on maximizing damage, those will likely change with future updates. Don’t be afraid to switch things up if you’re stuck, and focus on finding a team that feels comfortable for you. Ultimately, mastering a team that suits your playstyle is the key to beating the hardest challenges.
