Stefanie Catalano flees

They seemed to have the perfect life: a loving family with children from previous relationships, constant travel, plenty of money, and a friendship with the famous Hemsworth brothers.

Everyone knew that Antony Catalano, 59, and his wife Stefanie, 40, had a marriage with a lot of ups and downs. Their relationship was known for being turbulent.

Last month, the former executive of Domain and a Byron Bay hotel owner experienced a dramatic downfall. Reports claim he returned home to their upscale Melbourne apartment after a 40th birthday celebration, under the influence of drugs, and then physically assaulted his wife.

According to a police statement, he reportedly threatened Stefanie, saying he would kill her if she screamed again.

Security cameras apparently recorded part of the incident, which began inside an apartment and then moved into the nearby hallway by the elevators.

Stefanie reportedly broke her tailbone and had to go to the hospital for several hours after the incident.

After his arrest, Catalano stated he felt intensely ashamed and humiliated. He also revealed that loved ones had encouraged him to get help for problems with substance abuse in the past.

He resigned as executive chairman of Australian Community Media (ACM) just one day after being accused of assault, false imprisonment, and threatening someone’s life.

He’s currently receiving treatment at the Delmont Clinic near Melbourne and is scheduled to appear in court next month.

Stefanie reportedly went back to her house in Byron Bay for a short time before leaving the country to avoid attention from the media.

A source told the Group Chat she took their school-age children to Canada for four weeks.

It wasn’t surprising to hear the couple had headed to the snow – they’re avid skiers and have a beautiful penthouse apartment at Mount Buller, a well-known ski resort in Victoria.

The father-of-nine, who has been married to Stefanie for 14 years, was twice married before.

He met Stefanie, who was 20 years old, while he was married to his second wife, Shara. Although there were reports that Stefanie had previously worked as a nanny for his five children, they actually first met at The Pantry cafe in Brighton.

Stefanie reportedly worked as Catalano’s receptionist when they started their relationship. There’s no implication that Catalano was unfaithful to his wife; the information simply states he met Stefanie while he was still married.

Just before his arrest, sources say Catalano was spotted socializing at the Formula One Grand Prix with a woman.

She came to Melbourne as a fan of the McLaren racing team and met Catalano while she was there.

The two reportedly had dinner at France-Soir, a popular and upscale restaurant in South Yarra that Catalano often visited with his wife. A few days later, things apparently took a dramatic turn.

The Mail isn’t implying that Catalano’s dinner or his time at the Grand Prix were inappropriate, or that they had anything to do with what happened later.

Catalano is expected to face court next month, with proceedings ongoing.

Billionaire’s confidant faces court

We often expect to be wary of those who disguise their true nature, but in Sydney’s exclusive social circles, it’s the newcomers desperately trying to belong who often raise the fewest suspicions – until their facade crumbles.

Sydney Morning Herald reporter Kate McClymont has revealed shocking details about Annalouise Spence, who was once a close friend and advisor to wealthy philanthropist Judith Neilson. The investigation suggests Spence was leading a secret second life.

For eight years, Spence had unique access to Neilson’s private and financial information. However, New South Wales Police now claim this access was abused to pay for an expensive lifestyle, totaling around $1.5 million.

Police say Spence pretended to be her manager and faked approvals to pay for expensive things like first-class plane tickets, fancy hotels, designer clothes, jewelry, and artwork. She’s also accused of stealing almost a million Qantas frequent flyer points by booking flights for someone named Neilson, then cancelling those flights and keeping the points for herself.

The expenses are surprisingly high: nearly $400,000 was spent on travel, $335,000 on clothing, and $184,000 on jewelry – all reportedly charged to her company. In contrast, Neilson is known for using her wealth to support struggling communities in Australia and Africa.

Spence is also facing accusations of fraudulently applying for a Black American Express card using Neilson’s identity, without Neilson’s permission.

The card was reportedly used to pay for a $45,000 trip to Seattle with a layover in Los Angeles. During that trip, Spence purchased a $16,000 piece of art for a male friend, who later supposedly sent the money back to Spence’s account. They then spent almost $39,000 for a five-night stay at the luxurious Carlyle Hotel in New York.

Spence and her husband apparently lived in a house owned by Neilson without paying rent, even though they already owned a three-bedroom apartment in Erskineville.

The potential fraud came to light after changes were made in Neilson’s office. A new executive assistant noticed a questionable $58,000 charge for a rose gold Rolex just days after starting the job.

A thorough review of Neilson’s finances was conducted, and crisis manager Marnie Edwards—a former detective inspector with the New South Wales Police—was brought in. She reportedly discovered additional problems.

On Thursday, police arrested Spence at her home and brought her to Mascot Police Station. She was subsequently charged with 68 counts of fraud – specifically, obtaining property through deception.

Despite the serious accusations, people in Sydney’s social circles seem to know very little about the person involved. So far, inquiries to those who would likely be informed have yielded no results.

‘I’ve never seen her and I’ve never heard of her,’ one high-profile socialite said.

Someone else commented that they were surprised Judith let a person with no connections to her wealthy and private social group manage her money.

It’s clear Spence enjoys a luxurious lifestyle. She describes herself as a wife, daughter, sister, friend, and pet parent with a passion for fashion, travel, beautiful homes, lovely gardens, and all things glamorous.

Her Pinterest account showcases a variety of interests, from home decorating and 50th birthday celebrations to a dedicated collection of over 120 diamond jewelry items, labeled ‘bright and shiny’.

Quaid’s secret Aussie tabloid connection

Last weekend, actors Jack Quaid and Claudia Doumit got married in a private countryside ceremony. The event brought together famous faces from Hollywood and the Australian media, and also revealed that Claudia Doumit comes from a family with a history in the Australian tabloid press.

I was so thrilled to see Jack Quaid get married! As a huge fan of his parents, Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid – both ’90s movie stars, of course – it was incredibly special to see them front and center at his beautiful wedding last Saturday at Mona Farm in New South Wales. It was such a picturesque setting for their son to say ‘I do’!

What really got people in the media talking, though, was the bride’s family – they had a lot of connections in the publishing and entertainment industries.

Claudia is the daughter of Mary Zavaglia, a well-known beauty editor at Australia’s Woman’s Day magazine during its most popular years. Mary later moved from Sydney to Los Angeles to help Claudia pursue her dream of becoming an actress.

A former coworker remembered her as someone who was always friendly and well-liked in the office. She had a cheerful personality and remained good friends with long-time employees of the magazine.

About ten years ago, Zavaglia moved to Los Angeles and quickly became part of the community of Australians living there. She was frequently seen socializing with people connected to entertainment consultant Amanda Archer, often in the Beverly Hills area.

Before working at the magazine, she and her former husband, Morrie Doumit, successfully owned and operated a salon called Bizarre Hair Management.

The couple, who first connected while filming ‘The Boys,’ chose to have a very private wedding in the small town of Braidwood, located in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales.

Like a classic Hollywood production, the wedding was kept completely secret. Staff at the venue reportedly had to sign agreements promising not to reveal any details.

Elle breaks her silence

Elle Salagaras, a TikTok personality from Sydney who previously went by @Elle_EasternSuburbsMum and now uses @thats_so_elle, has finally spoken out after a difficult legal battle with a former friend, Cindy Killian, ended unexpectedly.

The young mother of three, who is known for her luxurious lifestyle, feels proven right after Killian unexpectedly dropped a legal request to keep her away from him, avoiding a potentially public and contentious court battle following their difficult split.

Last week in a group chat, it came out that the process was stopped abruptly after Magistrate Stafford warned Killian, another social media influencer, that she might have to pay the legal fees of a former close friend. Killian immediately withdrew her application after hearing this.

After recently undergoing breast augmentation and showing off her new figure, Salagaras has confirmed long-held expectations.

She announced that Cindy Killian has dropped her application for an Apprehended Violence Order against her, and any temporary restrictions have been lifted.

I’ve always maintained that the Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) was unjustified, and I believed Cindy’s claims were untrue. The fact that the application has been withdrawn proves I was right all along.

Killian requested a court order to protect her from Salagaras, preventing him from physically attacking or threatening her, stalking or harassing her, damaging her belongings, or harming her pets.

To be clear, this column does not suggest Salagaras has done any of these things.

Kilian previously stated that the issue was a private matter between himself and the other person involved, and also a confidential police investigation, but he wouldn’t provide any further details.

Let me clear things up – I’ve been following this situation closely, and Salagaras has confirmed to me that this isn’t something the police are handling, or even involved in. They’ve made it very clear that Killian understands that from the start.

Behind the scenes, the drama continues.

The vlogger’s lawyers, representing her in a case against a former friend and Sydney-based real estate agent, have indicated she’s considering seeking legal fees from them. If successful, this could result in significant financial hardship for the friend, who is a Canadian citizen and is married to fund manager Lucas Salagaras.

Although the specific amount isn’t known, sources say Killian might have to sell several of her expensive handbags if she’s required to pay the debt.
