Dota 2 Patch 7.38 patch notes and summary: Wandering Waters

One of the largest updates in the MOBA’s history has arrived.

At last, after much anticipation, loyal Dota 2 enthusiasts are finally graced with Patch 7.38 dubbed as “Wandering Waters”. For years they’ve been imploring Valve for an update and even peered into the cosmos in search of a hint about the next patch release. Now, their patience has been rewarded with significant enhancements to Dota 2 gameplay.

Delving straight into the February 18 Dota 2 update, there’s a lot to explore – from map redesigns to Roshan’s comeback into the (now extended) river. So, let’s delve right in and uncover what it has in store for us!

Dota 2 Patch 7.38 patch overview

Huge map update sees currents, flooded rivers aid your movement

On the Dota map, the riverside areas of both safe lanes are now submerged! This expansion offers an enormous advantage to players leaving their bases. Traversing the river flows will bestow a speed boost on your character, making it faster to get back to the safe lane for farming or to aid allies in ambushes.

There are some changes on the map, not just the usual ones. Previously known as Wisdom runes and Lotus Pools, these spots will now be Shrines. Similar to the previous locations, these Shrines will provide the same benefits, but with a twist – you’ll need to compete for them in combat. The Shrines are positioned more strategically within the lane and they don’t require enemies around to bestow their advantages, instead, they encourage battles among players.

The locations where the Tormentors reside have been shifted. During the day, they are positioned in the old Roshan pits located at the bottom, while during the night, they move to the top at an alternative location.

But if the Tormentors are there… where did Roshan go?

Roshan returns to the river

Roshan is once again found along the riverbank! Similar to his previous routine, he has set up his two campsite and will switch between them according to the daily day/night cycle. But unlike before, there’s no warp gate for him to pass through – instead, he plans to transport himself upriver each time!

This development significantly alters the early-game dynamics since mid laners will now face the challenge of dealing with Roshan pushing through the wave of creeps. As time progresses, it’s likely that encounters over Roshan will involve more players, as his pit is no longer as secluded.

Craft “personalized” Neutral Items with Madstone

Among all the alterations in Patch 7.38, possibly no change is as significant as the introduction of Neutral Item crafting. Now, when players eliminate jungle creatures, they will acquire Madstones – two for themselves and one for a randomly selected teammate. These Madstones can then be utilized to enhance a Neutral Item artifact.

After gathering sufficient quantities of Madstone, you’ll choose a Neutral Item Artifact along with an Enchantment. Artifacts may feature either an active skill or a passive advantage, while the Enchantments on these artifacts are always passive. As your stockpile of Madstone grows, you’ll have the opportunity to advance and select new artifacts and enchantments that offer increasingly significant benefits.

Patch 7.38 biggest buffs and nerfs

Due to a prolonged period without any hero adjustments, we’ve decided to introduce an additional column labelled “reworks”. Certain heroes will undergo minor skill modifications, whereas others will be completely overhauled, featuring brand-new aspects known as ‘Facets’.
