Denise Welch reveals her fashion icon is future daughter-in-law Gabbriette Bechtel before recalling son Matty Healy’s ‘ridiculous’ style choices

Denise Welch says her future daughter-in-law, Gabbriette Bechtel, inspires her fashion choices so much that she actually wears clothes Gabbriette no longer wants.

Oh my gosh, I’m absolutely obsessed with FKA Twigs! Seriously, she’s just incredible. And can you believe she’s engaged to Matty Healy? My idol, Matty! She’s 28 and just stunning, and I was so excited to see the Loose Women panelist, who’s 67, completely gushing over her too! It’s just… perfect. They’ve been engaged since 2024, and I’ve been following every detail! I’m so happy for them both!

Denise admits she doesn’t follow high fashion, but enjoys seeing what her future daughter-in-law, Gabbriette, wears. Luckily, Gabbriette works at Adidas and Gucci, so Denise occasionally gets to borrow some of her clothes.

The actress from Waterloo Road also mentioned she’s been working with a stylist recently to help her choose outfits for fancy events.

Denise wasn’t impressed with her son and his bandmates’ style, calling it ‘ridiculous’.

The band The 1975 began practicing at our house in the northeast when they were just 13 years old. Throughout their teenage years, they’d walk to the separate building where they rehearsed, waddling comically because their pants were so low-slung.

Matty Healy and Gabbriette were first seen together in September 2023, displaying affection in New York City. This came after his breakup with Taylor Swift, which had been widely reported in June of that year.

After just nine months of dating, the couple revealed they were engaged in June 2024. The model shared a photo of her unique black diamond engagement ring on Instagram.

This follows speculation from Taylor Swift fans that her former boyfriend, Matty, might have hinted at a message to her while performing on stage, over two years after they broke up.

A video posted on the ‘Travis and Taylor’ subreddit showed Matty Healy playing the piano during a show, leading many Taylor Swift fans to believe he was playing the beginning of her 2024 song, ‘The Black Dog’.

This happened while he was in England, leading a songwriting workshop for students at Gateshead College near Newcastle, according to Stereogum.

In the video, Matty Healy, the lead singer of The 1975, who is now engaged to model Gabbriette, was playing the keyboard. The tune he played sounded very similar to the beginning of a song by Taylor Swift.

‘Oh he loves adding fuel to the fire I guess haha,’ one person wrote.

Another agreed, ‘I think he loves to troll to be honest.’

‘He loves sending her messages,’ someone else typed. 

Another user pointed out that it seems like he’s now listened to the album, recalling that when it was first released, he publicly stated he hadn’t heard it after being asked about it.

Swift sings about discovering that her ex hadn’t turned his location off despite their split.

She noticed he was going to a bar named The Black Dog in London, a place people have said she and Healy used to frequent.

Elle Magazine points out several lyrics that suggest the song is about Matt Healy. For example, the singer mentions her ex-boyfriend dating someone much younger, something Healy did on two occasions after their short relationship.

Some fans think the song might be about Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, whom she dated from 2016 to 2023.
