Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 finale ending explained: Did the BAU catch Gold Star?

As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher of crime dramas, I must say that the latest episode of Criminal Minds: Evolution left me utterly spellbound. The Season 2 finale was a rollercoaster ride filled with twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat.

In the season finale of “Criminal Minds: Evolution,” the BAU team found themselves with a daunting task ahead. One of their colleagues had been taken captive, while they were working to identify the last known member of the Gold Star group.

Caution: This post contains major spoilers for the Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 finale

The episode kicked off straight off the back of the explosion. The BAU managed to get to Rossi and get most people out. However, Emily was missing.

We quickly figured out Emily’s location as she had been kidnapped by Jade. Alongside Church, Emily was bound. Jade acted as prosecutor, judge, and jury, declaring Church guilty of pedophilia. In her role as executioner, she fatally shot him in the head and then pushed his body out of the room.

The final member of Gold Star in the Criminal Minds: Evolution

1. In the last episode, it was revealed that Pete B. was part of Gold Star, and his middle initial ‘B’ represented ‘Bailey.’ Surprisingly, it was discovered that Pete is actually the sibling of Doug Bailey.

Instead of solely accusing the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) for what transpired involving him and the Gold Star team members, he specifically pointed the finger at them because of his brother’s demise. As Emily gathered this information from Pete and Jade, it was Ray who enlightened the BAU about why he agreed to collaborate with Voit. He had knowledge about Pete’s past all along.

Gold Star was informed by Voit that the BAU was responsible for Doug’s death. However, it took Emily quite some effort to make them understand that it was actually Voit himself who committed the crime. In the end, Garcia managed to find a solution. By accessing the projector, she played a video of Ray discussing with Voit about shooting Doug. In this footage, Voit admitted to his actions. Upon Pete’s confirmation that the video wasn’t manipulated, he came to the realization that he had been mistaken all along.

At this stage, the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) was stationed outside the room where Emily was being kept captive. The door had been set to detonate upon their entry, a fact Emily understood meant Gold Star intended to neutralize the BAU in this manner. However, only Luke and the others recognized that this entire situation was a trap.

Pete and Jade turn themselves in

Pete and Jade were curious about one question for Emily: how could they avoid getting harmed since the police arrived? As they began to understand, they had been deceived by numerous individuals. However, they realized that only those within the Behavioral Analysis Unit hadn’t attempted to manipulate them.

Emily strongly discouraged them from being harmed, instead providing explicit instructions. At a certain moment, it seemed as though Jade might take her own life, but she ultimately did not follow through. What she yearned for was confirmation that she would be heard this time. Emily unequivocally assures Jade that she will give her full attention to whatever she has to share.

As a psychologist who has worked with many individuals entangled in the dark corners of society, I can’t help but feel a sense of empathy for Jade, despite her heinous actions. It’s clear that she was manipulated and brainwashed by Stuart House, and if not for his influence, none of this tragedy would have unfolded. Emily, being a fellow professional in the field, understands this too, and is determined to ensure that both Jade and Pete receive the help they need to overcome their traumatic pasts and find redemption.

Emily explicitly communicates to Ray that concealing information resulted in numerous deaths, causing one to question if it was justified. Maintaining his authority depends on her trust, but she expects something in return if she’s going to shield his secrets. It appears that much of this is aimed at ensuring Jade and Pete receive necessary assistance instead of incarceration.

In contrast to our usual expectations for the finales of “Criminal Minds: Evolution” Season 2, particularly with regards to the UnSubs, this ending offers a refreshing twist. It subtly hints at potential returns for Jade and Pete, while emphasizing that life isn’t always clearly good or bad.

Despite managing to enter the General Population, things don’t seem to be going well for Voit. He was assaulted by fellow inmates and stabbed. Could this have been part of a plan, though? The BAU is aware that he had a purpose for entering Gen Pop, but what could it be? Is it because escaping is simpler there?
