Originating from Capcom in 2004, the latest installment of Monster Hunter (MH) is scheduled to launch on February 28, following a wait of over five years.

In the upcoming release from Capcom, numerous fresh gameplay features are being introduced; however, one distinctive aspect that previously set the game apart – its in-game language – is being phased out. You might wonder why this gibberish language is significant, so let me elaborate.

The “Monster Hunter” series is an action role-playing game that offers players a vast open environment to explore and hunt monsters. While slaying monsters provides enjoyable gameplay and serves as the primary focus, the universe of “MH,” known as the Forbidden Lands, boasts a rich and intricate lore. This realm is shared by intelligent races who have distinct languages and traditions that are prominently showcased throughout the series. Humans live alongside these other sentient beings in this world.

A notable language that gained significant popularity, both within games and reality, is colloquially known as the “Monster Hunter” tongue. This linguistic style is widely used among the community of Monster Hunter (MH) and many races in the series opt to communicate in it. Initially, the language might appear nonsensical, but it boasts intricacies such as verbs, dialects, and even dedicated fans play certain installments of the franchise entirely using this unique language.

Playing the entire game using the unique language from Monster Hunter previously allowed players to experience a deep immersion within the Forbidden Lands. Yet, in the forthcoming game, Capcom opted to exclude this enchanting language from the game, and they provided a compelling explanation. In an interview with PC Gamer, the executive director of the title, Kaname Fujioka, shared that the main character’s voice lines are fixed and cannot be altered to match the Monster Hunter language.

To create an immersive gaming experience, the dialogue in the game is presented in various human languages, each tailored to different regions. For the first time, even the Hunter character has voice lines, which adds depth to their character. Changing everything to Monster Hunter Language might not make sense in terms of storytelling anymore.

It’s fortunate that the language isn’t entirely absent from the title, as NPCs will converse among themselves using this tongue, and they’ll also address the player in their native language on a regular basis.

Players don’t want the protagonist to talk in the game

Despite being a unique blend of Japanese and French, the language used in Monster Hunter is somewhat restrictive, failing to fully convey emotions effectively to players. In this new version of Monster Hunter, the creators are emphasizing storytelling over the world-creating elements that have traditionally been a part of the game’s title.

Fervent enthusiasts of Monster Hunter are disheartened because they can no longer experience the game in their preferred language. To them, this feels like losing a small but significant aspect of the bond they’ve built over the years. However, they take solace in knowing that the language will not be completely extinguished and may still be heard occasionally in the forbidden realms.
