Brat summer 2.0? Charli XCX announces new album with help from Martin Scorsese

Another Brat summer is upon us.

Charli XCX revealed on Monday that her latest album, “Music, Fashion, Film,” will be released on July 24th, and early signs suggest it’s going to be a hit.

Charli recently revealed the cover art for her new project on Instagram, and it’s full of influential figures. It features John Cale from The Velvet Underground, representing music; fashion designer Marc Jacobs; and acclaimed director Martin Scorsese, symbolizing the world of film.

I’m so excited! Charli just announced her new album, Music, Fashion, Film, is dropping on July 24th. It’s going to be 11 tracks long, clocking in at around 30 minutes and 5 seconds. You can pre-order it now, and she sends all her love! I can’t wait to hear it!

Charli XCX’s self-teasing mockumentary ‘The Moment’ fends off an endless Brat summer

The pop singer known as ‘Brat’ is working again with the director of her previous music videos ‘360’ and ‘Guess’ on a humorous take about trying to move past her signature, but now unwanted, green image.

In May, she launched her first two songs, “Rock Music” and “SS26.” “SS26” refers to the Spring/Summer 2026 fashion season, and its music video shows the artist walking down an X-shaped runway while singing about a bleak future, declaring that neither music, fashion, nor film can offer salvation.

The album’s lead single, “Rock Music,” received a varied response from both critics and listeners. The song clearly signals Charli’s move away from electronic pop and towards a rock sound, with the lyrics “I think the dance floor is dead” played over a strong, distorted guitar riff.

Charli explained to British Vogue in April that creating another dance album would have been emotionally difficult. She’s more interested in exploring new and unexpected approaches to rock music. However, she later clarified on Instagram that she isn’t actually making a rock album.

Music

Charli XCX returns to the desert and brings Lorde, Billie Eilish and Troye Sivan with her.

While ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ isn’t the artist’s debut album this year, she actually released ‘Wuthering Heights’ – the soundtrack for Emerald Fennel’s film – back in February. John Cale contributed to ‘House,’ which was the first single released from the soundtrack.

Recently, Charli has expanded her creative work to include acting and producing. She both starred in and produced Aidan Zamiri’s mockumentary, “The Moment,” which draws inspiration from her “Brat” album. Film critic Amy Nicholson of the Times described it as a funny, behind-the-scenes look at modern fandom, comparing it to the classic rock mockumentary “Spinal Tap.”

I’ve been following this actress’s career, and she’s been really busy! I recently saw she was in the remake of “Faces of Death,” which came out in April. And she’s got a couple of interesting projects coming up later this year – Gregg Araki’s new erotic comedy, “I Want Your Sex,” and an art-world thriller called “The Gallerist” directed by Cathy Yan. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing those!

Charli recently shared with The Times at the Sundance Film Festival that she finds more inspiration for her music in movies than in other music. She expressed how thrilled she is to be involved in filmmaking – acting, working on projects, and both writing and producing – calling it a long-held dream.
