Weak Hero Meets Bloodhounds In June’s Most Brutal Netflix Action Series

After popular action series like Bloodhounds and Weak Hero, Netflix is releasing another live-action show in June that focuses on street fighting, revenge, and youth rebellion.

The platform used to focus mainly on romantic comedies and lighthearted everyday stories for its Asian content. However, they’ve recently started offering a wider variety of shows. New releases include everything from the quirky superhero series The Wonderfools to darker, more dramatic shows like If Wishes Could Kill. This shows the platform is now aiming to appeal to a broader audience, and its content is reflecting that change.

Netflix is adapting another popular Korean webtoon, this time with a series called Viral Hit. Like recent successes Bloodhounds and Weak Hero, it promises intense action and a story about an underdog rising to the challenge, based on the webtoon by Taejun Pak.

Viral Hit’s New Japanese Setting Gives This Classic Webtoon A Fresh And Gritty Vibe

The live-action version of Viral Hit will be reimagined with a Japanese setting, including changes to the location and character names. The show, a new Japanese drama, will premiere on June 11, 2026, and stars Ōji Suzuka (known for Silent) and Meru Nukumi (from Kururi 〜Who’s in Love with me〜).

The new trailer suggests Suzuka will play Kōta Shimura, the Japanese adaptation of Hobin Yoo. Kōta begins the story as a typical high school student – he’s bullied and doesn’t have many friends or opportunities. To help with his mother’s medical bills, he starts broadcasting street fights online. His life takes a dramatic turn when one fight unexpectedly becomes hugely popular, launching him into a completely new world.

Nukumi plays Kaho Asamiya, a character based on Bomi Choi from the original story. While the show features plenty of action and competition, Asamiya offers a calming presence in Kōta’s often-turbulent life. She’s a refreshing take on the popular girl trope, appearing kind and sincere. Instead of dismissing Kōta because of his background or looks, she immediately sees his true self and understands his difficulties. All of this makes for a strong addition to Netflix’s growing collection of live-action adaptations.

Viral Hit Will Hit Just As Hard As Standout Action Series Like Bloodhounds And Weak Hero

As a big fan of seeing how these stories come to life, I’m really excited about how they’re handling Kōta’s journey in this adaptation. It’s not just about the fights, you know? They’re giving a lot of screen time to the people who are making his success happen behind the camera, which I love. Ai Mikami is playing Aki, this super reliable assistant who really helps his channel take off, and Araki Sugou is his classmate Toru, who’s also the one filming everything. They’re the ones turning what starts as a real struggle into something huge. Plus, with Hideki Takeuchi – the director of Fly Me to the Saitama – and Yuichi Tokunaga writing, it feels like they’re determined to give us both awesome action and a really compelling story about the characters and what drives them.

Shows like Weak Hero and Bloodhounds became popular because their action scenes felt realistic. They avoided fantastical powers or quick wins, instead portraying fights as brutal and impactful, where every hit truly hurt. Viral Hit appears to be going for that same kind of gritty, believable action.

Beyond the exciting fight scenes, Viral Hit explores how far people will go when they’re desperate – a theme that resonated with viewers of shows like Weak Hero and Bloodhounds. If the action delivers, Viral Hit has all the elements to become a major Netflix hit this month, joining the growing list of compelling dramas about troubled youth.
