Well, I say, old bean, it appears that BNY, the colossal custodian bank, has decided to spread its wings and flutter eastward, alighting in the sun-soaked sands of Abu Dhabi. In a move that would make even the most seasoned financier raise an eyebrow, BNY has joined forces with Finstreet and ADI Foundation, a duo of digital dynamos, to concoct a spot of digital asset custody infrastructure. What ho!
This jolly collaboration, anchored in the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), the emirate’s financial free zone, will initially focus on the custody of Bitcoin and Ethereum. Rather sporting of them, what? But fear not, for their ambitions are as boundless as a Bertie Wooster scheme-they plan to expand into stablecoins, tokenized assets, and other regulated digital instruments. Pip pip!
Now, BNY, with its staggering $59.4 trillion in assets under custody (as of March 2026, no less), brings the institutional clout. Finstreet, a digital market infrastructure group, chips in with its licensed trading, clearing, and advisory capabilities. And ADI Foundation, with its sovereign-grade blockchain infrastructure, ADI Chain, provides the underpinnings for this digital extravaganza. A regular three-course meal of financial innovation, if you ask me.
The International Holding Company (IHC), the Middle East’s most valuable holding company, is also in on the act. With a market capitalization of approximately AED 878.5 billion ($239 billion), IHC recently launched DDSC, a dirham-backed stablecoin regulated by the UAE Central Bank. Rather spiffing, eh?
“This strategic collaboration is an important step in further cementing Abu Dhabi’s place as a global digital asset hub,” remarked Ajay Bhatia, Principal Council Member at ADI Foundation. Quite the mouthful, but one can’t fault his enthusiasm.
Abu Dhabi, it seems, is positioning itself as the institutional-grade alternative in the UAE’s crypto landscape. While Dubai’s VARA framework has attracted the retail crowd and Web3 startups, ADGM is all about rigor and regulation, operating under English common law with strict licensing categories. Rather like a Jeeves to Dubai’s Wooster, if you will.
“The UAE is entering a new phase of financial development, characterized by deeper markets, greater digital sophistication, and stronger global connectivity,” said Hani Kablawi, Executive Vice Chair at BNY. “Together with IHC and its subsidiaries Finstreet and ADI Foundation, we are proud to be building the financial infrastructure for the future.” A noble endeavor, indeed.
This expansion follows a string of institutional heavyweights setting up shop in ADGM. Galaxy Digital opened an office in December 2025, Circle secured an FSP license for USDC payment services, and Tether’s USDt received recognition as an accepted fiat-referenced token. Quite the gathering of the great and the good.
Akshay Mahajan, Co-Founder and Group Director of Finstreet, described the collaboration as positioning Abu Dhabi as a global gateway. “As the primary access point for digital securities, Finstreet is the global gateway to Abu Dhabi’s financial ecosystem,” he declared. A bold claim, but one that seems to have some substance behind it.
The phased roadmap-starting with BTC and ETH custody, then moving to stablecoins and tokenized assets, and eventually incorporating ADI Chain’s settlement infrastructure-suggests an ambition to create a full-stack regulated digital finance hub. Not just a standalone custody offering, mind you, but a comprehensive financial ecosystem. Rather ambitious, but then, ambition is the stuff of progress, isn’t it?
As for the numbers, BNY’s stock (NYSE: BK) is trading around $86, Bitcoin is hovering near $81,400, and Ethereum is at approximately $2,317. But who’s counting, eh? After all, it’s the spirit of the thing that counts.
So there you have it, old sport. BNY, Finstreet, and ADI Foundation are off to the races in Abu Dhabi, and it promises to be quite the show. One can only sit back, raise a glass of the finest champagne, and watch the digital revolution unfold. Cheers!
