Big Bang Theory spin-off confirms release window with first look at OG returning stars

The new show Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, a spin-off of The Big Bang Theory, will be released soon, and we’ve gotten a sneak peek at some familiar faces returning for the series.

The new comedy series will feature Kevin Sussman returning as Stuart Bloom, the endearingly awkward and shy comic book store employee who became a fan favorite as the show went on.

The spin-off, first announced in October 2024, is now set to premiere in July. We’re getting our first glimpse of actor David Sussman, along with John Ross Bowie, who returns as Barry Kripke.

The main cast also includes Brian Posehn, known for his role as Bert Kibbler on The Big Bang Theory, and Lauren Lapkus, who returns as Denise. Ryan Cartwright and Josh Brener appear in supporting roles.

After a mishap, Stuart, Barry, Bert, and Denise find themselves traveling through different universes. They have to fix reality, and their journey will likely be full of unexpected surprises in these alternate worlds.

What to Read Next

The new show, Stuart Saves the Universe, was created and written with contributions from the original sitcom’s creators, Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady. They teamed up with Zak Penn, who also served as a creator and writer.

Greg Lorre, also a producer on the show, had hinted at details of the spin-off before. He joked that, for him, a large-scale production often meant simply two people having coffee on a couch!

This project is a departure for me. It blends science fiction and fantasy with comedy, which is a genre I haven’t really explored before. I intentionally wanted to challenge myself with something new, and I’m excited to learn throughout the process.

Penn explained they started working on this wild show, built within a world imagined by Chuck and Bill. Prady, describing the creative process as ‘really enjoyable,’ believes viewers will feel that happiness when they watch it.

“Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” is a spin-off show connected to the original series, which ended in 2019 after twelve seasons. Before that, the prequel “Young Sheldon” ran for seven seasons, concluding in 2024. Also debuting in 2024 was another spin-off, “Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage.”

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will premiere in July.
