Bam Smack Pow comic book fighting tournament: Supervillains tier 1

As a seasoned aficionado of interstellar combat and cosmic clashes, I must say that this battle royale is as tantalizing as a freshly baked apple pie at a Kansas barbecue. Each character possesses unique abilities and life experiences that make them formidable contenders.

The ongoing TopMob comic-book fight competition sees a series of battles, initially involving superheroes. The tournament culminates in an anticipated finale that includes both predicted victors and surprising defeats.

In the ultimate showdown, I found myself going head-to-head with some heavy hitters. Superman, my childhood hero, was leading early on, but as the votes poured in, Doctor Strange managed to pull ahead. It wasn’t a shocker that Wonder Woman overpowered Zatanna; she’s one of the best in the cosmos. Thor and Wanda Maximoff proved their might against Invincible and the Silver Surfer respectively, with nary a hiccup. Carol Danvers, the Space Siren, held her own against Jon Stewart in our epic space cop showdown. Magneto surprised many by outsmarting the Hulk. Storm pulled off an upset against Wally West, and Jean Grey simply annihilated Hal Jordan in the polls.

Now it’s time for the villains.

How were the brackets created?

Picture this as a sports tournament: The leader at position one competes against the finalist, the second-place contender battles the second to last, and so on. Keep in mind that being in the last position doesn’t necessarily mean you’re the least talented or capable. Factors such as significant victories, impressive skill sets, and popularity also play a crucial role.

As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the captivating world of comic books, I’ve come to realize that popularity plays a significant role in shaping the narrative. A character like Wonder Woman, who is adored and respected by many, consistently finds herself at the center of major storylines. It’s not just because she possesses superhuman strength and exceptional combat skills; it’s also due to her immense popularity among readers.

Then, and this could be the most important, there’s personality. A character is more than their powerset. Victor von Doom is a genius who should’ve been the Sorcerer Supreme years ago. The problem is his arrogance. That personality trait is why he continues to lose Reed Richards. There are also heroes and anti-heroes like John Constantine. Is he a better magician than Dr. Strange? Probably not, but he’s willing to fight dirty and use other people to win. That has to be considered.

1. Doomsday vs 16. Homelander

When Doomsday arrived on Earth, he annihilated anyone who crossed his path (Justice League America #69). It’s no surprise that he tops the list. After all, is the comic book version of Homelander powerful enough to overpower the one who defeated Superman?

3. Thanos vs 14. Sinestro

As a gamer, I’ve seen Thanos take down everyone from Thor to the Hulk, no easy feat. But here’s the thing, Sinestro isn’t just another player in this game. Armed with his fear-fueled Lantern Ring, Sinestro has proven he can overcome impossible odds. Now it’s up to the voters to decide if Sinestro’s power ring is a match for the Mad Titan.

5. Lobo vs  12. Loki

The Main Man can heal from anything and regularly takes Superman to the limit. However, he’s never faced anyone with the cunning and magical skills of Loki. This should come down to brains over brawn.

7. Black Adam vs 10. Sentry/The Void

Among the feats mentioned, The Void’s act of slaying two gods within a day (Ares and later Loki during Marvel Comics’ Siege) seems to be more significant than Black Adam’s centuries-old practice of tearing people apart, which includes an instance where The Void dismembered Carnage in New Avengers Issue 2. However, the importance can be subjective as both feats demonstrate immense power and skill.

8. En Sabah Nur vs 9. Omni-Man

It is possible that En Sabah Nur could defeat all of the X-Men and emerge victorious. In a previous encounter, Omni-Man managed to eliminate Earth’s top superteam without them even realizing it was happening. However, En Sabah Nur has the ability to heal from any attacks thrown by Omni-Man, but there is the question of whether he will underestimate the power and skill of the Viltrumite warrior.

This will be the closest fight in this round.

6. Thragg (Invincible) vs 11. Gorr the God Butcher

1. Gorr was about to annihilate all gods across time, from the past to the future (Thor: God of Thunder – God Bomb). Thraag reigned over numerous galaxies with terror and meticulous strategy. It boils down to who can endure the greatest hardship. I’d put my bet on Thragg.

4. Injustice Superman vs 13. Brainiac

Injustice Superman is everything that people fear about the Man of Steel. Brainiac could be the smartest being in the galaxy. He’s beaten Superman before, but never one that’s not afraid to kill. However, is that enough?

2. Darkseid vs 15. Anissa (Invincible)

Anissa doesn’t boast more experience than Darkseid, a fact that only a select few can claim. Darkseid himself is not one to underestimate anyone. However, Anissa possesses remarkable speed and an uncanny knack for taking decisive action. But the question remains: Is that enough?
