Director Carlos López Estrada recently revealed during a Reddit Q&A that the remake, which began development in 2020, has been cancelled. This means Disney has put the project on hold years after it was initially announced. Here’s what he said:

Hulu’s Friends Like These: The Murder of Skylar Neese tells the story of Skylar Neese’s disappearance and how investigators eventually solved the case. The documentary uses old footage, social media posts, and police files to reconstruct the events leading to the discovery of the truth.
“Unfortunately, it’s over,” Estrada explained. “I’m disappointed because I really believed it had something unique and special going for it. We had developed some truly amazing music for the project.”
