Aubrey Plaza breaks her silence about surprise pregnancy with partner Christopher Abbott

I’m so thrilled to share some wonderful news! Aubrey Plaza is expecting her first child with her partner, Christopher Abbott. We spotted them together just recently, and she’s absolutely glowing! It’s such a happy time for them, and I’m sending all my best wishes!

Jennifer Coolidge, 41, known for her role in The White Lotus, has spoken publicly for the first time about her pregnancy, which was recently announced and surprised many.

Aubrey Plaza and actor Christopher Abbott are expecting their first child together. This news comes about a year after Plaza’s husband, Jeff Baena, tragically passed away by suicide.

During a recent recording of the Smartless podcast, the actress surprised hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes by announcing she is pregnant. She excitedly stated, ‘I’m pregnant right now!’

The three actors were thrilled with the announcement, and Aubrey Plaza shared that she’d had an ultrasound with her doctor earlier that day.

Today was a busy day for both my dog and me. We both had appointments at the doctor’s office, and we both needed scans. I had mine earlier, and my dog is getting theirs right now – I’m serious!

She first had an ultrasound, and then I did too. We discovered there’s a baby on the way!

The actress, known for her role in Parks and Recreation, was then asked how she felt about becoming a mother for the first time.

You know, I’ve always been incredibly curious about experiencing that – it’s something I’ve wanted to do for ages! I’m really excited to finally explore it and see what it’s all about. It’s been on my list for so long!

‘It just seems so interesting, that whole thing.’

Plaza and Abbott were seen celebrating the opening night of the Death of a Salesman revival on Thursday. The pair enjoyed the afterparty at Katz’s Deli in New York City.

The couple looked very comfortable and happy together as they posed for a photo inside the softly lit venue, with Plaza visibly delighted while snuggling close to her partner.

Although there are no photos of Plaza’s baby bump, she was seen showing it while walking her dog in New York City the day before.

The baby, whose gender has not been revealed, is due in the fall.

‘It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,’ a source told People.

I was so thrilled to hear that the couple is doing well! They actually first connected while performing on Broadway together, and it’s just lovely to know they’ve fallen in love and are feeling incredibly grateful for everything.

News initially surfaced that Plaza is pregnant with Abbott’s child, and the actress’s representative later confirmed the report.

Abbott is most famous for his role as Marnie’s sometimes-boyfriend on the popular HBO show Girls, created by Lena Dunham.

The two actors first collaborated in 2019 on the independent film Black Bear. In this psychological drama, they each played two characters: both an actor and a director attempting to film a movie in a remote and unsettling lakeside house.

The inexpensive thriller debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2020 and received very positive reviews. Many critics especially praised Aubrey Plaza’s performance as one of her strongest yet.

In 2023, she reunited with Abbott, this time performing together in a revival of John Patrick Shanley’s play, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, off-Broadway. The production ran through January 2024.

Plaza and her partner were last spotted together on February 14th at the Khaite Fall/Winter 2026 show during New York Fashion Week.

I was so excited to see them sitting right in the front row! They were there with amazing stars like Elizabeth Debicki and Gemma Chan – it was a fantastic sight!

Before announcing she was pregnant, Aubrey Plaza had successfully kept her relationship with Will Abbott private.

Okay, so there’s been some buzz lately, and I’m hearing through the grapevine – specifically, from DeuxMoi – that Aubrey Plaza and Guy Abbott were spotted looking pretty cozy at a berry farm upstate last June. What’s interesting is this was about five months after Aubrey’s husband had passed away, and they weren’t together at the time. It’s definitely adding fuel to the relationship rumors!

According to witnesses, she was seen talking to Abbott’s sister, Christina, shortly before she shared a post about the farm event on Instagram.

Over the last fifteen years, Abbott has built a reputation for consistently delivering excellent performances in both TV shows and movies.

Before becoming famous for his part in the show Girls, Abbott appeared in the critically acclaimed psychological thriller Martha Marcy May Marlene, alongside Elizabeth Olsen.

He’s also been in movies like A Most Violent Year (2014), James White, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016) with Tina Fey, and the chilling horror film It Comes At Night (2017).

In 2018, he starred alongside Ryan Gosling as astronaut Dave Scott in the film First Man, a biography of Neil Armstrong directed by Damien Chazelle, known for La La Land.

Abbott is known for working on smaller, independent films, though he’s also taken on bigger projects. These include the 2023 comedy Poor Things, with Emma Stone, and two upcoming superhero films: Kraven the Hunter and a new version of Wolf Man (both scheduled for 2025).

I’ve been following his career closely, and I was so excited to see him in ‘The Testament of Ann Lee’ with Amanda Seyfried – it was a beautiful period piece! But I’m really looking forward to his next project, where he’ll be acting alongside Florence Pugh in the new Netflix version of ‘East of Eden’. It’s a classic story and I can’t wait to see his take on it.

Plaza is pregnant after a difficult 2025, during which her husband, with whom she was separated, tragically took his own life on January 3rd.

It was subsequently revealed that the couple had separated four months before his untimely death.

A recently released autopsy report from the LA County Medical Examiner shows the filmmaker and actress separated in September 2024. At the time his body was found, she was living in New York.

The report revealed that the director of Life After Beth was going through a tough time in his marriage and had been seeing a therapist in the months leading up to his death.

According to records, Plaza – whose name was removed from the final report – told investigators she had talked to Baena the night before he died.

The report sadly showed the actress was worried about her soon-to-be ex-husband.

According to documents, in October 2024, Baena said things to [Plaza] that worried her, leading Plaza to ask a friend to check on her husband. Baena has been in therapy ever since.

The report showed no evidence of drugs or alcohol in Baena’s system when he died.

According to the information, Plaza knew her husband was still alive on January 3rd because he had texted her that morning.

The report states that a dog walker found Baena’s body after noticing loud music coming from his home – something the walker considered out of the ordinary.

She called the writer and director, but when she didn’t get a response, she went inside and found him dead.

Plaza released a statement to the Daily Mail expressing their devastation over the tragedy. They thanked everyone for their support and asked for privacy during this difficult time.

Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena first connected in 2011 at a game night Baena hosted for his friends and colleagues. They quickly started dating after that.

Javier Baena first gained recognition for co-writing the 2004 comedy I Heart Huckabees, directed by David O. Russell. He later directed his own film, the 2014 zombie comedy Life After Beth, featuring Aubrey Plaza.

Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena worked together again on the films Joshy (2016) and The Little Hours (2017), with Plaza also producing the latter. She later appeared in a supporting role in Baena’s dark comedy thriller Spin Me Round, which starred Alison Brie, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Baena.

I remember reading that Plaza said she and Ben bonded over a shared love of movies back in 2018. It’s so sweet – she explained that this connection is really what sparked both their creative collaboration and their relationship! It makes so much sense, knowing how passionate they both are about film.

Aubrey Plaza and Will Baena got married privately in 2020. She shared the news in 2021 while talking about her movie, Spin Me Round, and casually called Baena her ‘darling husband’ on Instagram.

Plaza returned to public life after her loss by introducing performers Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard at the celebration of Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary in February 2025.

It was such a beautiful moment. She honored her late husband in the sweetest way – by wearing a tie-dye shirt. It meant so much because they actually wore matching tie-dye pajamas at their wedding! He’d taken up tie-dye as a hobby when the pandemic started, and it became their thing. It was a really personal and touching tribute, and I honestly got a little teary-eyed when I realized the story behind it.

Plaza started her career doing sketch comedy in the mid-2000s. She then moved on to short films and funny videos online towards the end of the decade.

I still remember the moment I first saw her! It was with Parks and Recreation back in 2009, and honestly, she just became a star instantly. She played April Ludgate, and oh my gosh, that character! This totally deadpan, hilariously cynical assistant to Leslie Knope – Amy Poehler’s character – it was genius. April was everything, and Aubrey just was April. I was hooked from the very beginning!

The actress quickly became a popular film star, appearing in movies like Scott Pilgrim Vs The World (where she acted alongside her former boyfriend, Michael Cera), Safety Not Guaranteed (2012), Ingrid Goes West (2017), Little Hours (directed by Baena), Happiest Season (2020), Emily The Criminal (2022), and My Old Friend (2024).

She played a villain on the X-Men series Legion (2017–2019) and was featured in the popular second season of HBO’s The White Lotus in 2022.

Last August, Plaza publicly shared her grief for the first time since the loss of her friend, Baena, during a conversation with her former co-star, Amy Poehler, on the ‘Good Hang’ podcast.

When Amy Poehler acknowledged her husband’s passing and asked how she was coping, Aubrey Plaza responded that she felt happy to be with everyone in that moment. She said she was getting by and felt thankful to be able to live her life, admitting it was a daily challenge but that she felt generally okay.

She continued, saying the comparison was actually quite silly, and started as a joke, but she was being serious. She then asked if anyone had seen the movie The Gorge.

Okay, so I was talking to someone about it, and they described it as this totally mind-bending, otherworldly movie – seriously, like something out of an alien film! And get this – it stars Miles Teller! I’m SO excited, and Anya Taylor-Joy and Sigourney Weaver are in it too! It’s coming to Apple TV+ in 2025, and I’ve already marked my calendar. I can’t even begin to explain how obsessed I am with this project!

She explained that the movie featured a dangerous setting – cliffs on either side of a deep gorge filled with monstrous creatures. Watching it, she realized that the feeling of being trapped and threatened reminded her of her own experience with grief, or how grief can feel.

I’m always aware of a huge amount of negativity and suffering, and it’s constantly visible to me.

I often feel drawn to fully immerse myself in something, to really experience it. Other times, I prefer to simply observe, or even distance myself. But no matter what I do, it’s always present in my thoughts.
