A new space race is unfolding, but this time it’s led by the Soviet Union. Apple TV+ has released a trailer for Star City, a spin-off of the popular sci-fi series For All Mankind. The trailer hints at a suspenseful and dangerous story, full of betrayal and tension, as the Soviets compete to win the lunar race.
The popular series For All Mankind primarily told the story of the space race from the American side, but its spin-off, Star City, offers a completely different viewpoint. This new show explores the immense dangers, hidden truths, and personal costs endured by the Soviet Union in their quest to be the first to land a person on the moon. It delves into the personal lives of the Soviet cosmonauts, the talented engineers who supported them, and the intelligence agents working within the program.
I’m so excited about this show! Anna Maxwell Martin is playing Lyudmilla Raskova, a high-ranking KGB agent in charge of everything, and she’s fantastic. Plus, Rhys Ifans – you might know him from House of the Dragon – is playing the Chief Designer, which is a really important role. The cast is packed with amazing actors from all over, including Agnes O’Casey, Priya Kansara, Solly McLeod, Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, Josef Davies, Alice Englert, and Adam Nagaitis. It’s going to be incredible!
The new series comes from the creators of the original For All Mankind – Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert, and Ronald D. Moore – and aims to deliver a similarly grand historical story, but with more focus on spies and the anxieties of the Cold War. This announcement follows the news that the original For All Mankind will end after its sixth season.
Good news for fans who loved the show! You’ll soon be able to explore the story from the Soviet perspective in Star City. The first two episodes will premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday, May 29, 2026. After that, a new episode will be released every Friday for eight weeks, with the final episode airing on July 10, 2026.
