Anthea Turner has delayed her wedding to Mark Armstrong again – this is the fourth time – because of ongoing renovations at their house.
The 65-year-old TV presenter and Mark, 59, became engaged in Rome in September 2019 after dating for just two months. They’ve had to delay their wedding twice – once because of the loss of their mothers, and again due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Anthea, recovering from a serious injury she called a ‘nightmare,’ has announced she and her partner are moving forward with their wedding plans while also beginning renovations on their living room.
She told Woman’s Own that they’re working on resolving things and are confident they will, but their plans are temporarily paused due to a living room renovation that’s about to begin.
We’re not in this relationship to start a family or for financial reasons. We’re together simply because he’s my closest companion, my best friend, and the most important person in my life.
I couldn’t ask for a better person to share quiet nights with. I feel so lucky to have found them.
Oh my gosh, Anthea just said it! Apparently, they feel like they’re already married, and honestly, who could blame them? Seven years together is practically a lifetime! It’s like they don’t even need a wedding, their love is already that strong. I just knew they were soulmates!
She said that while she’d like to get married eventually, it’s not something they’re focusing on right now, but she believes it will happen at some point.
Anthea used to dream of a wedding in Italy, but she’s decided to have the ceremony in the UK instead. She realized she doesn’t want the hassle of planning a wedding overseas.
The TV presenter explained she actually likes the thought of a more intimate wedding now, as large, extravagant celebrations are becoming less popular.
Anthea discussed the well-known drama surrounding her wedding, often called ‘Flake Gate,’ while appearing on Vanessa Feltz’s show on Channel 5.
Anthea was once married to property developer Grant Bovey, now 64. Their wedding in 2000 was quite extravagant and caused some criticism when the couple appeared in a promotional campaign for Cadbury’s Snowflake chocolate bars, posing while eating them.
She thought back to her lavish wedding while talking about whether such costly celebrations are really worthwhile.
Looking back, it was much more over-the-top than I wanted. I remember thinking at the time that it didn’t feel like me and was far bigger than what I had in mind.
I was kind of tricked into getting involved, and it quickly spiraled out of control. Eventually, someone shoved a chocolate bar in my face, and that was that – everything ended right then and there.
I think there’s been a shift in how we view extravagant weddings. We’re no longer automatically impressed by them. It’s similar to how people react to flashy cars – excessive displays of wealth are falling out of favor.
Anthea recently shared her happiness about finding love again with her fiancé, especially after experiencing two previous divorces. She also happily announced she’s now a grandmother, as her stepdaughter recently had a baby.
Anthea was first married to radio personality Peter Powell, but their marriage ended in 1998 when she began a relationship with property developer Grant Bovey. They later married and were together for fifteen years, from 2000 until 2015.
I was so thrilled to hear Anthea mention in a recent interview that she and Mark are planning to get married next year! She also shared that she’s still a big believer in marriage, which is lovely to hear. I’m really happy for them both!
She described her upcoming wedding as a dream come true, saying she feels incredibly lucky to have found love and a family again.
When asked if romance in your sixties tends to be more about friendship than passion, she strongly disagreed, stating it wasn’t her experience at all.
Let’s be real, as women, our bodies change, and that includes our sex drive, especially around menopause. I’ve definitely noticed a shift, but it’s not a permanent thing! I’m a big advocate for HRT – it really can make a difference. And honestly? Sometimes, a spark with someone new is all you need to rediscover that passion. It’s about embracing where you are and finding what works for you.
She’s still very close to the children of her ex-partner, Grant. She recently shared that Grant’s daughter, Claudia, just had a baby, and she’s thrilled to be a grandmother, excitedly calling herself ‘Granny Anth!’
Anthea recently opened up on being labelled a ‘homewrecker’ after falling for Grant.
She left Peter in 1998 for Grant – who at the time was married with three young children.
Grant, a friend of Peter, left his wife Della and their daughters, then aged two, four, and seven.
What seemed like dramatic entertainment for onlookers was actually a very difficult and hurtful time for the people directly involved.
Ugh, everyone called her that woman, you know? The one who ruined a family. It’s just… she finally talked about it, like really talked about that whole time, in an interview last month. I devoured every word, honestly. It was so fascinating to hear her side of things, finally.
Anthea explained to The Telegraph that she admitted to an affair because she believes people often lie when they say a breakup is due to issues within the relationship itself – there’s usually someone else involved.
I had a lawyer friend release a statement to prevent further investigation and potential discovery of sensitive information.
‘I look back on it all now, it was a series of unfortunate events.’
Anthea went on to be with Grant and they were married for 15 years.
The couple initially separated in 2012, attempted a brief reconciliation, but ultimately split for good in 2013. Their divorce was finalized in 2015, citing his infidelity.
Their marriage ended when she found out Grant, who was 52 at the time, was having an affair with interior designer Zoe de Mallet Morgan. This happened less than a year after she’d already forgiven him for a previous affair.
