Adam Sandler’s Grown Ups 3 Finally Happening at Netflix

Adam Sandler is set to return for another comedy! Following the success of the first two Grown Ups movies, which earned over $519 million globally, a third film is now officially in the works.

Netflix revealed on Wednesday that a third Grown Ups movie is coming to the streaming service. Kyle Newacheck, who previously directed Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore 2 (which broke records with 2.89 billion viewing minutes in its first week), will direct. Sandler and Tim Herlihy, the writing team behind Happy Gilmore 2, are also writing the script for the new Grown Ups film.

Adam Sandler and the original cast – David Spade, Rob Schneider, Chris Rock, and Kevin James – are all set to return for Grown Ups 3. The movie centers around the friends dealing with the loss of someone close to them. To honor their friend’s memory, the group and their partners take a trip to Europe to scatter his ashes. They’re also hoping the journey will remind them that they can still enjoy life and each other’s company, even as they navigate their sixties.

Adam Sandler is not only writing and acting in Grown Ups 3, but he’s also producing it with Jackie Sandler, Jack Giarraputo, and Tim Herlihy. Kevin Grady and Judit Maull are serving as executive producers on the film.

It’s been 13 years since Grown Ups 2 came out, so fans have been eagerly waiting for a third movie. The original, directed by Dennis Dugan, was released in 2010. It’s about a group of old friends who get back together after learning their former basketball coach has passed away. The first movie was a big hit, earning over $272 million around the world.

The 2013 follow-up film, also directed by Dugan, sees Sandler’s character, Lenny, return to his hometown and reconnect with his childhood friends. This time, however, they find themselves dealing with trouble from a nearby college fraternity. The sequel earned $247 million worldwide, bringing the total box office revenue for the series to $519 million.

It’s no surprise that Netflix is making another Grown Ups movie, as the streamer has frequently collaborated with Adam Sandler in recent years. Besides potentially reviving Happy Gilmore after almost two decades, Netflix has also released several of Sandler’s comedies, including Just Go with It, The Week of, and the Murder Mystery films. Sandler has also performed stand-up comedy specials for Netflix, such as 100% Fresh and Love You.

Grown Ups 3 does not yet have a streaming release date.
