Accused season 2, episode 8 recap: What happened to Megan?

As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher of crime dramas, I have to admit that I was rather underwhelmed by the finale of Accused season 2. While Sonequa Martin-Green is an exceptional actress, her character Megan’s storyline in this episode felt like it jumped the shark.

In the final episode of Season 2, we found ourselves immersed in a peculiar and advanced-for-its-time case with regard to “The Accused”. Let’s delve into the happenings of The Accused season 2, episode 8.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from the Accused season 2 finale.

I recall viewing the final episode of Accused‘s first season, which stirred within me emotions of heartache, empathy, and unease – yet this discomfort was a positive sensation. It prompted me to ponder about my own actions in such circumstances, and that’s how most episodes left me feeling.

The second installment of “The Accused” hasn’t been as strong, and the season finale of the second run was quite an unusual episode, unfortunately not in a positive sense. It was overly futuristic and bizarre, making it difficult to become emotionally invested in any characters. This is unfortunate because Sonequa Martin-Green is a talented actress.

What did Megan do in Accused season 2, episode 8?

The episode introduced a character who was self-centered and driven by ambition. I have no issue with ambitious female characters gracing our screens. In fact, I admire women pursuing their dreams relentlessly. Yet, it’s crucial for them to also embody respect and kindness, qualities that Megan seemed to lack. This left me uncertain about her innocence in the situation.

However, was there anything particularly wrong with what she did? Given that she appeared to be providing for her husband’s needs when she couldn’t, and she did so using a robot.

Instead of what her husband John required being something else, it was recognition and respect in a field he cherished – music. However, his talent and ardor were overlooked. Megan grappled with the reality that AI was dominating the music industry, and she couldn’t ignore how it was impacting their relationship.

In her growing envy towards the robot her husband received as a gift, she sought to rescue their marriage by taking an unexpected step: implanting the embryos they had previously frozen without first discussing parenthood with John. However, this decision didn’t sit well with him. Despite his desire to become a father, he couldn’t continue the marriage with Megan and made it clear that he wanted a divorce. He was resolute about ending their relationship.

In a furious moment, Megan violently threw a vase at John, striking him on the head. Unfortunately, this action resulted in his death, leading to a trial where she was charged with murder.

Accused season 2, episode 8 recap: What happened to Megan?

Was Megan found guilty in the Accused season 2 finale?

In our case, the sole observer of the incident was a robot. One might assume that a robot’s account could be trusted, given its digital nature and supposed ability to merely present the facts as they unfolded. Yet, Megan had already outsmarted us all.

Instead of manipulating Eve’s memories about the incident, she asked her sister, who had built the robot for her, to do it. This way, they made people believe that Eve malfunctioned and was responsible for the crime, which led to Megan being acquitted. However, this act negatively impacted her sister’s career since it portrayed robots as unreliable and dangerous, which contradicted her sister’s commitment to advancing AI technology.

Megan proved herself to be a consistently selfish person. I feel for babies born to women like Megan. She doesn’t want her twins because she wants to be a mom, and they end up becoming an extension of her; something to manipulate.

It’s intriguing to ponder how these events might impact Megan’s bond with her sister moving forward. Will her sister choose to remain supportive after all that transpired? Frankly, I wouldn’t have been able to.

Accused is available to stream on Hulu.
