Jane Carter Schneck, Aaron Carter’s mother, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $85,000. She says the money is needed to cover administrative costs for getting a star for her son on the Hollywood Walk of Fame after his death.
As of Thursday morning, she has already received over $300,000.
Jane Carter Schneck explained in a GoFundMe post on Tuesday that the money raised will pay for building, putting up, and maintaining the star for years to come.
Carter Schneck explained the fundraiser was a team effort by fans, friends, and those who supported Aaron Carter, all working together to celebrate his life and memory.
Before Aaron Carter can receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, his family must officially nominate him. Then, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce – which chooses around 30 celebrities each year – needs to approve the nomination.
In November 2022, 34-year-old Carter was found dead in his Lancaster, California home. Authorities determined he died from the combined effects of Xanax and inhalant abuse.
As someone who’s seen how much little things can mean during tough times, I was really touched by the response to Aaron’s passing. His mother shared that even small donations or contributions to the campaign meant the world – it’s all about celebrating who he was, his incredible music, and the impact he had on all of us. It’s a beautiful way to honor his memory and keep his spirit alive.
Carter Schneck told TMZ on Wednesday that she was working to gather the necessary funds before the May 15th application deadline.
Carter Schneck said her late son, Aaron, would have been thrilled to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She shared that she and Aaron often visited the Walk of Fame and local magic shops when they were out together.
Carter Schneck recalled telling Aaron, when he was twelve years old, that he would achieve great things, and he apparently believed her.
Nick Carter, 46, of the Backstreet Boys, and his twin sister, Angel Carter, 38, are both supporting this, according to their mother.
As a huge fan, I was so touched by Carter Schneck’s words about how we, the fans, will really be the heart of making this tribute to the singer something special and meaningful. It’s lovely to think we’ll all come together to honor their memory.
According to a 2023 report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Carter’s autopsy revealed he had taken alprazolam (the generic name for Xanax) and inhaled compressed difluoroethane.
Carter breathed in difluoroethane, a gas found in cans of compressed air, which is often called ‘huffing’.
Officials stated the singer was unable to move while in the bathtub because of the drugs he had taken. He was found dead at his home on November 5, 2022.
According to officials, the performer accidentally drowned after falling into the water while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
In December 1997, Carter released his first album when he was just 10 years old. He was also opening for his older brother’s group, the Backstreet Boys, at their concerts.
In 2000, he achieved his greatest commercial success with the popular singles “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It)” and “I Want Candy.”
Carter made brief appearances on popular TV shows like Lizzie McGuire, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and 7th Heaven.
The GoFundMe page also mentioned accomplishments like placing among the top five on Dancing with the Stars in 2009, as well as experience with stage acting and creating independent music.
The fundraiser announcement highlighted Aaron Carter’s lasting influence on a generation of fans and his significant contributions to pop music, cementing his place as a memorable star of the early 2000s.
