A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder stars warn Pip and Cara’s friendship may not survive

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder season one spoilers follow.

The popular mystery series A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is coming back for a second season, airing on BBC Three and Netflix. However, things are difficult for Pip and Cara, as the aftermath of the crimes committed by Elliot Ward is straining their friendship. The show’s actors hint that their once-strong bond might not survive.

At the end of the first season, viewers learned that Cara’s father, Elliot, was actually the one who killed Sal Singh. He’d falsely accused Sal of murdering Andie Bell, and it was revealed he had a history of troubling behavior, including a relationship with Andie, kidnapping another girl, and blackmailing his daughter, Naomi.

Okay, so after everything that happened at the end of the first season – with Elliot getting arrested along with Andie’s sister, Becca – things are really tough for Cara. I just heard from Asha Banks, who plays her, that Cara is seriously struggling to deal with all the fallout and rebuild her life. It’s heartbreaking to think about!

At the start of season two, Cara is really struggling emotionally,” Asha explained. “She’s still processing the difficult events and shocking revelations from the previous season. This trauma also puts a strain on her friendship with Pip, as both girls try to heal and move on.”

What to Read Next

Asha explained that this season is particularly challenging for Cara, especially her relationship with Pip. Elliot’s actions have drastically altered the group’s dynamic and impacted everyone’s friendships. Cara is currently trying to understand her connection with Pip and how to navigate her place within the friend group, as she feels increasingly isolated. She’s just taking things one day at a time.

Everything feels completely different now. Asha described it as if a bomb had exploded within their friend group. Everyone is trying to act like things are normal, but they’re not – the dynamic has shifted in every way.

Pip starts a podcast to deal with the stress of the murder investigation and the upcoming trial of Max Hastings, but this causes further problems for her, Cara, and their friends. Emma Myers, who plays Cara, says the podcast actually makes Cara’s emotional struggles worse.

Emma explained that while Pip is a good friend, she can be a bit narrow-minded. Pip’s sense of right and wrong isn’t always accurate, and she sometimes misses the subtleties of a situation. Meanwhile, the podcast makes Cara feel even more alone at school, where everyone is openly talking about the crimes linked to her father, Elliot.

Emma pointed out that starting a podcast about her friend’s father while they were both still in school – and making it public for anyone to listen to and potentially mock – wasn’t a smart move for their friendship.

Even though their characters experienced a lot of conflict on screen, the actresses found that filming those intense scenes actually strengthened their bond off camera. Asha explained that it was enjoyable to explore their characters’ complicated relationship, but admitted the scenes with Emma were often very stressful to film. As soon as the director called “cut,” she’d immediately seek out Emma for a hug, and they often spent time comforting each other between takes.

Okay, so in season two, I’m getting thrown into a brand new mystery as Pip. It’s complicated because Elliot’s still locked up, and Little Kilton’s trying to get Max Hastings brought to justice – apparently he’s been assaulting people, and there’s a court case coming up. A bunch of witnesses are ready to testify, but then things get really messy. Jamie, who’s Connor’s brother and a major witness against Max, just disappears two days before he’s supposed to testify! It’s a total panic situation, and I, as Pip, have to figure out what happened to him.

This time, Pip is reluctant to start a new investigation, especially after seeing how it strained her friendship with Cara. Emma explained that Pip believes it’s connected to Max’s trial, as Jamie is scheduled to testify.

Pip is hesitant to help search for Jamie, remembering how her previous investigation into Andie and Sal’s deaths unintentionally caused problems for others. However, with a new and dangerous mystery brewing in Little Kilton, it likely won’t be long before her natural curiosity takes over and she starts looking for answers.
