Hulu has released a brand-new crime drama that’s quickly earning praise from reviewers.
The new series Furious draws inspiration from the 1987 film Black Widow, directed by Bob Rafelson. It’s created by the team behind New Girl and Dying for Sex, and it quickly earned a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes upon its release.
Critics Loved Furious
The show has received perfect reviews from critics – nineteen out of nineteen! – but hasn’t officially been designated “Certified Fresh” yet, despite clearly deserving that recognition. Both critics and viewers enjoyed the series, especially given its strong start with a three-episode premiere. Currently, 93% of audience members give it their approval.
In a recent article, Alison Herman of Variety noted that while QAnon often focuses on stories about trafficking and endangered children, the film Furious is most impactful when it honestly portrays the real experiences of those impacted, even the difficult parts.
According to IndieWire’s Ben Travers, both Rossum and Petticrew deliver compelling performances, effectively portraying the internal struggles of their characters. The supporting cast also shines, offering grounded and subtle performances that help move the story towards its conclusion.
In a review for the Los Angeles Times, Robert Lloyd highly commended the show, particularly its direction. He praised Brian Kirk’s work on the first two episodes, noting that it was clear and unobtrusive, allowing the strong writing and performances to shine.
The review highlights Meriwether’s consistent success, along with strong performances from Rossum and excellent writing that raises the standard for crime dramas.
What Happens in Furious?
The series centers around Alice, a new FBI agent, and Katherine, a serial killer. When evidence points to Katherine, Alice goes undercover to investigate. As they both pursue their own versions of justice, their worlds collide, and the distinction between good and evil becomes increasingly unclear.
To get ready for her part, the actor worked with law enforcement officials and detectives. The show’s creator also consulted with female FBI agents and social workers to ensure the character played by Rossum felt authentic.
In addition to Guy Rossum, the film Furious features Lola Petticrew (known for Say Nothing), Scoot McNairy (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Quincy Tyler Bernstine (Power Book II: Ghost), and Jake Lacy (The White Lotus).
