VanEck, a leading investment firm, has introduced a new exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the U.S. that directly tracks the price of BNB, a popular cryptocurrency. This addition broadens VanEck’s range of crypto ETFs.
The VanEck BNB ETF (VBNB) started trading today, with its shares supported by BNB cryptocurrency held securely by Anchorage Digital Bank. The fund has an annual fee of 0.39% and is available on the Nasdaq exchange.
This ETF allows investors to gain access to BNB simply through their regular investment accounts, removing the need to directly purchase or manage the cryptocurrency. BNB is the primary token used on the BNB Chain and covers transaction costs within that blockchain network.
According to VanEck, BNB Chain handles over 14 million transactions and has more than 2.5 million users each day. They also noted data from Artemis, which shows the network currently holds over $16 billion in stablecoins and $3.6 billion in digital versions of real-world assets.
The launch follows amended filings from VanEck and Grayscale tied to proposed spot BNB ETFs.
In January 2024, the U.S. saw the introduction of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that directly hold Bitcoin, and shortly after, similar ETFs for Ether. According to data from SoSoValue, these funds have quickly grown to manage a combined $86.45 billion in Bitcoin and $11.6 billion in Ether. Since then, ETFs for other cryptocurrencies like Solana (SOL), Dogecoin (DOGE), and XRP have also become available.
