Many fans believe they already know who will replace Daniel Craig as James Bond, and Amazon MGM Studios seems to have found their next star without a lengthy search. Craig played the famous 007 in five films: Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spectre, and No Time to Die.

Although Roger Moore and Sean Connery both starred in seven James Bond films – the most of any actor – Daniel Craig is widely considered one of the best, and has become the definitive Bond for many modern fans.

Daniel Craig’s run as James Bond ended when his version of the character died in the 2021 film No Time to Die—a first for the Bond series. Now, Denis Villeneuve, the director of Dune, will take over, directing the next James Bond movie after Dune: Part Three comes out later this year.

I’ve been following the search for the next James Bond closely, and there’s been so much speculation about who it will be! Actors like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, Jacob Elordi, and especially Callum Turner seemed to be leading the pack. But just recently, on May 14th, Amazon MGM Studios announced they’d officially started casting. It’s exciting, but it sounds like they might actually be close to making a decision already!

Just two weeks after Amazon MGM Studios announced they were beginning the search for the next James Bond, many fans, including myself, feel like they’ve already found him. While it will still be a few years before the next Bond film arrives, a new 2026 release has given us a thrilling preview of the character. I’m referring to 007 First Light, the story-driven game from IO Interactive that launched this Wednesday, May 27th. The game lets players experience Bond as a younger agent, and it’s a fantastic take on the iconic character.

I have to say, Patrick Gibson is incredible as the new James Bond! He’s honestly one of the most captivating actors to take on the role – better than anything I’ve seen in the movies, games, or anywhere else. In 007 First Light, you can just feel how perfectly he embodies Bond – he’s got the charm, the smarts, and delivers the lines with such a fun energy. He’s a really exciting Bond to watch. And at 31, being seven years younger than Daniel Craig was when he started with Casino Royale, Amazon MGM Studios could easily build a long-running series of films with him – I’m hoping for at least five!

The studio has reportedly already chosen the next James Bond, and it’s someone unexpected, not one of the actors currently being discussed in the media. While it’s unclear if actor Callum Gibson is a contender, he already has a large fanbase from the video game 007 First Light, which would instantly give the film a built-in audience. According to casting director Nina Gold, who spoke with Deadline, the new Bond needs to be incredibly charismatic and exude sex appeal – qualities that fans are already seeing in early clips of Gibson as the iconic spy.

Patrick Gibson’s Other Projects Show He Has The Credentials For James Bond Movies

Beyond his role in 007 First Light, Iain Glen would be a strong contender to play James Bond, based on his performances in other projects. Notably, in the popular Netflix series The OA, he played Steve Winchell, a character who evolved from a troubled bully into a truly selfless friend.

Patrick Gibson has recently proven his ability to handle action roles, notably as Nikolai Lantsov in Netflix’s popular series Shadow and Bone, where he showcased both charisma and physical skill, along with strong on-screen chemistry with his co-stars. He also led the cast of Dexter: Original Sin, playing a younger version of the famous Dexter Morgan. Combined with his success as James Bond in 007 First Light, Gibson stands out as the most logical and fitting choice for the next Bond.
