The following article contains spoilers for Euphoria season 3, episode 6, “Stand Still and See”.
Cassie Jacobs, much like the actress who portrays her, has a strong personality that often dominates any scene she’s in – at least, that’s how her sister Lexi feels in the show Euphoria. While Lexi is a main character, the series has often pushed her to the sidelines, and this has become particularly noticeable in the third season.
After a debated start to its third season, Euphoria feels quite different from its earlier seasons. Instead of focusing on the characters’ struggles with sexuality, mental health, and addiction, the new season throws Rue Bennett into a dangerous conflict between a strip club owner named Alamo and a drug dealer called Laurie, making it feel more like a gritty crime thriller than the show’s signature teen drama.
Sydney Sweeney’s explicit scenes as Cassie have definitely been the most talked-about part of the show. The storyline, which focuses on her character becoming an OnlyFans creator, has been criticized for being more shocking than meaningful, and it’s sparked a lot of strong reactions from viewers.
Lexi is determined to become a screenwriter in Hollywood, and she’s willing to start at the bottom to achieve her goal. She’s worked hard to impress her boss, Patty Lance, a successful showrunner, but finds herself overlooked when her sister, Cassie, lands a small role on Patty’s show, L.A. Nights.
Though it might seem like we’ve seen this before, Cassie and Lexi have grown up since high school, and the youngest Howard sister is much more influential now. With several powerful criminals appearing this season, Lexi could actually be the most threatening character on Euphoria.
Cassie Or Nate Could Die If Lexi Kills Her Sister Off L.A. Nights
In the sixth episode of Euphoria season 3, “Stand Still and See,” Patty encourages Lexi to write the next script for L.A. Nights. However, this opportunity comes with a catch: Lexi is being asked to adapt a toned-down version of Cassie’s experiences with OnlyFans, a story Patty pitched to the showrunner to secure a larger role for herself.
Lexi is clearly very angry that even with her new opportunity, Cassie continues to be the center of attention. Her friend, Gillie, then proposes a shocking idea: that Lexi write Cassie’s character off the show, L.A. Nights, by killing her off in the script. Gillie explains that “shows need characters to die every now and then to keep viewers interested,” a comment that feels like a warning of things to come.
Okay, so I immediately saw where Lexi was going with this, and honestly, it’s pretty clever. It looks like she’s doing a nice thing for her sister, giving her this big role, but let’s be real – killing Cassie’s character gets her out of the picture and could make Lexi look like a genius writer who knows how to build suspense. It’s a win-win for Lexi, even if it’s a little…ruthless.
Lexi is more capable than she thinks, and following Gillie’s plan could have serious, even fatal, results. Meanwhile, Nate’s poor money choices have gotten him and Cassie into trouble with dangerous individuals. Cassie’s earnings from OnlyFans are the only reason Nate is still alive, though he’s lost a pinky toe and a ring finger.
Now that Cassie has taken down her OnlyFans account, following Patty’s advice, she’s relying completely on her part in L.A. Nights to achieve her dreams of wealth and fame. If her character is killed off the show, she won’t have any money to send to her husband, and Nate’s dangerous financial backer might come looking for her – he already knows where she lives.
Lexi’s Script Could Be A Darker Escalation Of Her Stage Play In Euphoria Season 2
Honestly, even before Gillie dropped that heavy hint, Euphoria already set us up to believe Lexi could be a force for reckoning – and she wields her power through writing. The final episodes of season two were entirely focused on Lexi’s play, and it was clearly based on her life. It was a thinly veiled retelling of growing up with a sister who constantly craved attention and validation from men – a pretty brutal portrayal, if you ask me.
Lexi didn’t just target Cassie with her play; she also powerfully challenged Nate’s harmful behavior in a particularly intense and provocative scene. This caused a huge reaction, leading Nate to angrily leave and break up with Cassie right then and there. Cassie, overwhelmed, had a very public and emotional breakdown on stage, harshly confronting Lexi.
| Lexi Howard’s Euphoria Timeline | |
|---|---|
| Season 1 | Rue and Cassie’s protector, exists more as an observer than a participant. |
| Season 2 | Develops a friendship with Fezco that has romantic undertones, writes and puts on an incendiary play that rocks East Highland High School. |
| Season 3 | Works as an assistant in Hollywood, gets the opportunity to write a script that may kill her sister. |
Okay, so I’m really intrigued by what’s happening with Cassie in Euphoria season 3. It looks like Lexi is once again drawing inspiration from her sister, and honestly, it’s making me nervous! Remember high school? Cassie was finally getting somewhere with Nate, and then Lexi’s play just blew everything up. But now? The stakes are way higher. It’s not just a high school breakup anymore; Lexi’s writing could potentially ruin Cassie’s entire life – like, seriously, she could end up a widow! I’m bracing myself for some major drama.
More Lexi Screentime Could Have Saved Euphoria Season 3
Lexi’s story arc is a highlight of Euphoria season 3, offering some of the most compelling drama. However, episode 6 didn’t give her enough screen time, focusing instead on the escalating conflict between Alamo and Laurie. This is a shame, as Lexi is one of the few characters who still makes this season feel true to the spirit of Euphoria.
In a surprising moment during the “Red Wedding” episode of Euphoria, Lexi revealed to Jules that she’s never had sex. This is a big deal for a show that often centers on sexuality, but the show quickly moved past the revelation. While understandable considering the dramatic events surrounding Nate’s injury at the end of the episode, it’s frustrating that Euphoria hasn’t explored this further as a storyline.
Okay, so when Lexi casually tells Jules that something is “better than herpes,” it’s clearly her way of shutting down the conversation and avoiding what she’s really thinking. The frustrating part is, as the viewer, we’re left wondering exactly what she is avoiding. Look, there’s nothing wrong with choosing not to have sex, but it felt a little weird because, earlier in season two, it seemed like Lexi was starting to develop feelings for Fezco, and that she wasn’t totally opposed to the idea of intimacy. It just made that comment feel…off, and like she wasn’t being honest with Jules – or with herself.
Lexi’s hesitation about sex probably isn’t due to a fear of STDs, but rather a fear of getting emotionally hurt. She’s witnessed the damaging effects of relationships through her mother and sister – her mother uses wine to cope with pain, and her sister seeks approval from men. Lexi understandably doesn’t want to repeat those patterns, and her first romantic experience ending with her date’s arrest likely reinforced those fears.
It’s all just guessing, really, since Euphoria avoids exploring certain storylines. It’s disappointing, because Lexi’s sexuality would make for a much more compelling plot than, for example, Faye’s troubling turn. But the upcoming season feels too scattered to focus on that. Someone on Instagram made a meme about how it feels like each character is in their own separate show—Lexi seems like she belongs in the comedy Hacks. And honestly, that show would be a much better fit for her than Euphoria.
