Wild Turkey Dusts off Cult-Favorite Bourbon for New Gold Foil Edition

For 80 years, Wild Turkey has been making bourbon whiskey in Kentucky, creating a rich collection of different tastes and smells. Now, the brand is releasing a limited series called the Austin Nichols Archives Collection, which revisits some of its most popular, classic blends.

This special collection, released each year, celebrates the life and work of Wild Turkey’s legendary Master Distiller, Jimmy Russell. Created by his grandson, Bruce Russell, who is also an Associate Master Blender, the collection will revisit some of Wild Turkey’s most beloved releases. Instead of making exact copies, these new expressions will be inspired by the original flavors, offering a tribute to their unique character.

This first release in the collection celebrates Wild Turkey’s popular bottles from the 1980s and 90s, nicknamed the “Cheesy Gold Foil” by fans. Originally available from 1985 to 1992, these bottles have gained a dedicated following among whiskey collectors since the bourbon revival of the 2010s. These older, or “dusty,” bottles are now prized for their rich and complex flavors.

Wild Turkey’s Gold Foil Edition is a 16-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey, bottled at 120 proof and without chill-filtering, to truly showcase the flavor of the original “Cheesy Gold Foil” releases. This process creates a bold, flavorful bourbon with hints of fruit and a distinct oaky scent.

Russell describes the Gold Foil Edition as potentially the best-tasting whiskey they’ve ever created. He explains it has the signature ‘funk’ of Wild Turkey – a rich combination of dark fruit and aged oak reminiscent of rum, a flavor profile common in older, vintage whiskies, and less common in whiskeys made today, particularly those from Wild Turkey.
