Kurono Tokyo recently introduced its 2026 commemorative watch, the Special Projects Malachite “Kujaku-ishi.” Created as a personal project by designer Hajime Asaoka, the watch showcases the beauty of natural stone within Kurono Tokyo’s signature style. Malachite, known in Japan as “Peacock Stone,” is a striking material with a unique, silky sheen that moves between dark shades and bright green tones.
This watch showcases a beautiful center dial made of malachite, complemented by a brass outer ring finished with a unique, hand-mixed verdigris color. This creates a gently curved, rounded dial that blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with the designer Asaoka’s own style. Asaoka personally selects each piece of malachite, ensuring only those with the highest quality patterns make the cut – each approved piece receives his signature vermillion seal.
This watch uniquely displays the hours with symbols from the traditional East Asian Zodiac, blending ancient timekeeping with a modern design. It features a 37mm case crafted from polished stainless steel and is powered by a dependable automatic movement. The watch also includes a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and a comfortable calf leather strap.
The “Kujaku-ishi” watch will cost $1,850 USD and go on sale globally through the Kurono Tokyo website on May 28, 2026, at 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. JST. You can see the watch and place pre-orders in person starting May 20 at Kurono Tokyo stores in Aoyama and Shanghai. Shipping will begin in late June 2026. Because the watch is made in limited quantities, each customer can only buy one.
