Great news for fans! The BBC has announced a third season of the popular comedy series Amandaland, a spin-off of Motherland. Lucy Punch will return as the lead, reprising her role as the show’s funny main character. Joining her will be Joanna Lumley, known for Absolutely Fabulous, and Philippa Dunne, both beloved by viewers.
I wasn’t at all surprised to hear Amandaland is coming back! It’s been a huge success for the BBC, and everyone seems to love it – it’s even won awards. Digital Spy recently called the second season, which just dropped on BBC iPlayer, the best UK comedy led by women since Derry Girls, which is high praise! And it’s doing really well on iPlayer right now, consistently in the top 10 most popular shows.
Following the success of its Christmas special, Amandaland returned with a new episode that quickly became a hit. The BBC reported it was a record-breaker, becoming the most-watched comedy episode in the UK for 2025, attracting 7.4 million viewers over 28 days.

After the exciting news that the show is returning, creators Holly Walsh and Laurence Rickard shared their excitement about starting a third series of Amandaland. They were pleased the show has gained a following even Amanda’s Instagram account would envy. They’re already preparing to use AI to help write the new scripts and are looking forward to working with the talented cast and crew again.
Seb Barwell, a comedy commissioning editor at the BBC, said they’re thrilled to renew the show for a third series, as Amanda and the cast continue to be popular with viewers. He also expressed excitement about continuing their partnership with the show’s creators.
What to Read Next
Amandaland is centred on Amanda, the self-appointed queen of SoHa and aspiring influencer.

Amanda is juggling the challenges of raising teenage children while also dealing with her mother, Felicity (Lumley), who is in denial about getting older.
At the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday night, Amandaland won the award for best comedy, beating out popular shows Big Boys and Steve Coogan’s How Are You? It’s Alan (Partridge).
Punch called the victory a “complete surprise and truly special,” and the show’s creator, Holly Walsh, praised the cast, saying they’re what make the show so good.
The team discussed their desire for another season, but that question has already been answered – the show will return!
Amandaland seasons 1 and 2 are available on BBC iPlayer, and season 3 is on the way.
