Eco-warrior Benedict Cumberbatch… and a flying visit to tea at his friend’s country pile in a helicopter

Benedict Cumberbatch is known for passionately advocating for environmental issues and has even criticized Hollywood for being wasteful. However, he recently took a helicopter for a short visit to a friend’s rural estate, seemingly contradicting his public stance.

The actor best known for his role in Sherlock is a supporter of Greenpeace, has participated in protests with Extinction Rebellion, and is encouraging the film industry to adopt more environmentally friendly practices.

I’ve learned that the 49-year-old recently took a helicopter ride over Devon. While flying, he noticed the large home of his assistant, whom he affectionately calls ‘Flynikins,’ located in the fields below.

While flying at approximately 10,000 feet, the actor unexpectedly sent a text message to his assistant asking, ‘Is anyone available?’

He then landed on the estate’s manicured lawns and was greeted with a cuppa.

Knowing Benedict Cumberbatch has been vegan since 2017, it’s nice to imagine his family provided him with oat milk during his visit.

He even wore a ‘vegan’ outfit to the Met Gala in 2019.

Last year, the celebrity known for their progressive views encouraged Hollywood to prioritize sustainability. They pointed out the excessive waste from on-set catering and the practice of providing crew with plastic water bottles, and specifically asked studio executives to consider reducing transportation-related emissions.

It’s common for celebrities to be called out as hypocrites when they speak about issues like climate change. But flying in a helicopter – which produces about twenty times more pollution per mile than driving a car – makes the criticism pretty obvious, wouldn’t you say?

Cumberbatch’s representative was approached for comment.

Liam Gallagher recently purchased a luxurious £4 million home in the Cotswolds, complete with a traditional gypsy caravan. This has led to speculation about whether the former Oasis frontman will take inspiration from David Cameron – who famously used a similar caravan for songwriting – and create new music.

The ex-PM famously wrote his memoirs in a £25,000 shepherd’s hut.

Lola’s got top banter

Lola Bute, a well-known socialite, embraces being called eccentric. She’s even made a statement with a new T-shirt that playfully declares, ‘I put the hot in psychotic’.

Sources say the daughter of the late Marquess of Bute and fashion designer Serena Bute is hoping her boyfriend, Dutch model Parker Van Noord, will propose marriage.

I pray the slogan doesn’t put him off!

Tigerlily Taylor, whose father is Queen’s drummer Roger Taylor, has a unique way of keeping tabs on her boyfriend, whom she’s been dating for two years.

The 29-year-old model has been watching recordings from her doorbell camera to find out what music producer Mkulu Lee is doing.

One day, while reviewing the video, Tigerlily noticed Lee was wearing her sweater and immediately texted him, simply asking, “Why are you wearing my jumper?”

Mkulu joked that all the time she was spending watching the Ring camera was turning her into a villain, comparing her to Lex Luthor.

The wife of Bath is now a London lady

Emma Thynn, the glamorous Marchioness of Bath known for her connections to celebrities like Mick Jagger and fashion icon Edward Enninful, is reportedly joining the reality TV series, Ladies Of London: The New Reign.

Originally planned for release in December, the fourth season of the show following the dramas of the city’s wealthiest families has been delayed. It’s now expected to premiere on Bravo later this year.

I’m so excited to share that Emma will be working with some truly fascinating personalities! She’ll be alongside Mark-Francis Vandelli – you might recognize him from Made In Chelsea, he definitely has a strong sense of style – and the lovely Lady Martha Sitwell, a well-known socialite. It’s quite the glamorous mix!

If they are anything like the previous cast, expect tiaras, tantrums and high-society drama!

You couldn’t make it up!

Lady Mary Charteris is on vacation in Kenya, but she’s worried about some makeup packages she ordered before leaving home and can’t fully enjoy her trip.

The socialite worried: ‘How will my belongings even arrive here?’ and ‘What if they’re left outside and stolen?’ It was frustrating to be so anxious about practicalities when she was supposed to be relaxing with friends in a remote location.

Since one of those pals is cosmetics mogul Charlotte Tilbury, she might just be OK!

Is Emma Barnett taking a leaf out of Margaret Thatcher’s book?

The host of BBC Radio 4’s Today program shared that she has a small glass of whisky almost every night to help her avoid getting sick during flu season.

She describes herself as a 65-year-old man from Scotland, adding with a smile that she enjoys a good Scotch whisky – currently, she’s particularly enjoying a Glenlivet, though Talisker is also a favorite.

I spy George

George Clooney says he’s not worried about getting older. He recently explained that trying to hold onto your looks at 64 is pointless.

It seems George Clooney might not have such perfect skin after all. Sources recently spotted him making a quick visit to the high-end skincare store Hermetise in Soho.

I’m told George splashed £335 on an anti-ageing cream for his under-eye bags.

So perhaps the silver fox does care a little more than he likes to let on…
