Lorraine Kelly’s father sadly passed away after a fall on an icy walkway.
John Kelly, age 84, was discovered with injuries early this morning in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire. Sadly, he died at the scene despite the cold weather.
According to The Sun, police are investigating whether a fall on ice caused the man’s injuries. Staff at a local Tesco reportedly found him injured around 7am and contacted emergency services.
Lorraine, 66, announced the passing of her father on Saturday afternoon, sharing a photo of them together and a heartfelt message about him.
The TV presenter mentioned John hadn’t been well lately, but his death was still unexpected.
It is with great sadness that I share the news of my father’s passing. I’m remembering the wonderful man who sparked my lifelong love of learning. He bought me a telescope when I was just five, and we shared amazing moments together, like watching the moon landings. He always encouraged me to be curious and explore the world around me.

It’s been a really tough time. My brother Graham and I are heartbroken by the sudden loss, even though he hadn’t been well. If you’ve ever gone through something similar, you understand exactly how we’re feeling right now – it’s just… a shock, even when you’re prepared.
My heart is completely broken, and right now, my biggest focus is being there for my mum and the rest of the family. It’s such a difficult time for us, and we’d really appreciate some space to grieve and support each other. We’re going to miss my dad terribly.
The Daily Mail have contacted Lorraine’s representatives for comment.
After overnight temperatures fell below freezing, the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across Scotland.
Let me tell you, hearing this news about Lorraine was truly shocking – a real gut punch, honestly. She’s understandably devastated, and my heart goes out to her. It’s a tough time, and she needs space to process everything.
Losing a parent is always difficult, and Lorraine is currently with her family for support during this time.
Local residents shared with the publication that the stairs have a history of accidents and become particularly hazardous when icy.
A witness at the scene described the weather as very cold and the ground as slippery and dangerous last night.

John was a TV repairman who inspired a love of astronomy and science in his daughter.
John and Anne were married for more than 65 years. They had their daughter, Lorraine’s mother, when they were both very young – John was 18 and Anne was 17. Six years after that, they welcomed their son, Graham.
In an article for The Times, Lorraine recalled growing up in Glasgow’s Gorbals neighborhood, explaining that she, her brother, and both her parents lived in a single room until she was 13 years old.
The small kitchen area had a sink and stove, and a nook served as the bedroom. They didn’t have indoor plumbing; instead, there was a very unpleasant outhouse, and people had to go to public bathhouses to get clean.
My mum was a stickler for cleanliness, and I definitely inherited that trait! Even now, I have to wash dishes immediately – it feels like I’ll get in trouble if I leave them sitting there.
She admired her father for working tirelessly to lift their family out of poverty.
The family eventually moved to East Kilbride, after a stop in Bridgeton, and it was there that Lorraine started her career in media, working for the local newspaper, the East Kilbride News.
Lorraine shared that she worried about her father’s health back in 2021 when he was seriously ill with an infection and heart problems.

She shared with The Mirror that they had a really difficult few months, fearing they would lose him. It was a terrible time, but he showed incredible strength and fought back.
A year ago, he was hospitalized and was released shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic began. He suffers from heart failure.
He experienced a frightening health scare, initially suspected to be lung cancer, but thankfully it turned out to be a severe infection.
The presenter shared that she’s been helping to care for her mother, Anne, who has a kidney condition called nephrotic syndrome. To allow more time for caregiving, she’s reduced her work hours at ITV.
Lorraine received many messages of sympathy after sharing her news, including one from Vanessa Feltz. Feltz wrote, ‘Lorraine, I’m so sorry for your loss. I know how close and loving your family is. Sending you all my love and deepest condolences.’
Charlotte Hawkins expressed her sympathy, writing, ‘Lorraine, I’m so sorry to hear that, it’s truly heartbreaking. Sending you lots of love.’
Dawn French shared a message of support, writing ‘Love wrapped around you,’ while Nicola Sturgeon, the former First Minister of Scotland, simply sent ‘Sending love Lorraine x’.
Dr. Amir Khan, a frequent guest on the ITV show Lorraine, expressed his condolences, writing, ‘Lorraine, I’m so sorry for your loss. I know how much your family means to you, and I’m sending you all my support.’
