Here’s the latest: The Rolling Stones aren’t planning to tour with their new album, and currently have no future tour dates scheduled. However, given their incredible history, it’s likely they’ll tour again someday. They’re a band that seems to go on forever.
Here’s some exciting news: The Rolling Stones are releasing a new album soon! Titled Foreign Tongues, it’s their 25th studio album and will be available on July 10th. It features 14 tracks, and two of them have already been released to the public.
They released two singles under the name The Cockroaches: “Rough and Twisted” and “In the Stars,” which came out on May 5th. Both songs are well-produced, but they have slightly different levels of polish – one feels a bit rawer than the other.
What you need to know about the Rolling Stones’ new album, Foreign Tongues
“In the Stars” has a more upbeat, pop-influenced sound. Combined with their other recent song, it suggests the new album will offer some variety while still maintaining the classic Rolling Stones feel, and that’s perfectly fine.
The album will also feature some incredible guest musicians, including Robert Smith from The Cure, Paul McCartney – of course, known for his work with The Beatles and other bands – Steve Winwood, and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The band recorded and mixed the album at Metropolis Studios in West London in under a month. They worked with producer Andrew Wyatt, who had previously collaborated with artists like The Rolling Stones and Pearl Jam. Essentially, they brought in someone with a proven track record they could rely on to help them achieve the best possible sound.
Guitarist Ronnie Wood told Billboard that making the record was a very creative experience. He said the band was playing at their best and often got the perfect take on their first try. He hopes fans will enjoy it.
Mick Jagger and Keith Richards agreed with Woods, suggesting the new music would be faster-paced. This likely means a raw, garage rock sound – as much as the Rolling Stones can achieve that these days. They hinted the songs might be more energetic and edgy than their recent single, “In the Stars.”
The Rolling Stones’ latest album, Hackney Diamonds, was incredibly strong, so anticipation for their next record is understandably high. But knowing the Stones, they’ll probably deliver. We’ll all have to wait and see on July 10th.
