Channel 5 has had a lot of success recently with its suspenseful thrillers, frequently featuring Jill Halfpenny and Sally Lindsay. It’s therefore no surprise that Number One Fan, which stars both actresses, quickly became the most-watched program on their streaming service.
Even though only two episodes have been shown on TV, all four are currently available to stream. You have a long time to watch them too – the show will be on the service until at least April 30, 2030.
The series centers around Lucy, a TV host, who is rescued from an attempted robbery by a woman named Donna. Donna reveals she’s a devoted fan of Lucy’s.

It turns out Donna isn’t just a fan – she’s trying to blackmail Jane with potentially damaging video footage.
Lindsay, talking about her role, said she’d never seen herself portrayed like her character, Donna, before.

There’s this one section where my character looks totally unhinged, honestly! I’d be scared stiff if I ran into that version of her in the dark… It’s a cool contrast because when you first meet Donna, she’s really quiet and reserved. But then, wow, she completely transforms into someone else entirely.
Digital Spy praised Lindsay’s acting, describing it as “spine-chilling” and noting that she played a character who was both vulnerable and gradually became more threatening.

According to The Guardian, the show is “four hours of guaranteed, over-the-top fun.” The review explained that it’s not a complex drama, but rather a thrilling ride that depends on its story and how much enjoyment viewers get from it.
According to a review in The Times, the show is brutally honest in exposing the artificiality of television personalities, and it’s so wildly eccentric that it’s hard to tell if it’s a brilliant satire or just plain over-the-top.
It’s likely the second option, but I have to admit, it’s really enjoyable. It’s silly, but you can’t help but want more.
You can watch episodes three and four of Number One Fan tonight and tomorrow at 9pm on Channel 5. All episodes are currently available to stream on the My5 app.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a beautiful, full-color 100-page tribute to Sir David Attenborough, is now available! You can find it at newsstands or purchase it online.
