Good news for fans of The Bear: a brand new, surprise prequel episode called Gary is now available to stream! This hour-long episode takes place before the main series and focuses on Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and his cousin Mikey (Jon Bernthal) as they travel to Indiana.
This episode was written by the show’s two lead actors and directed by Christopher Storer, the creator of The Bear. Jason Moss-Bachrach, one of the actors, shared the news on Instagram, saying it was a dream come true and expressing their excitement to finally release this story about Richie and Mikey.
Premiering in 2022, The Bear quickly gained a lot of attention. The show follows Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), a talented chef who returns home to take over his family’s small sandwich shop after his brother’s unexpected death. Throughout the series, viewers learn about the lives and stories of the other kitchen staff, and also gain a deeper understanding of Carmy’s family.
Many people consider The Bear a masterpiece, and it’s won a lot of awards – including 21 Emmys – because of its focus on compelling characters and realistic portrayals of difficult topics like grief, mental health, and family trauma.
The fourth season of the popular show came out last year, and fans can expect season five in 2026. Though Disney and FX haven’t officially announced it, most people think season five will be the final season of the show.
In March, Jamie Lee Curtis, who plays Donna Berzatto on the show, told Entertainment Tonight she thought the series was ending. She also shared a post on Instagram about ‘finishing strong,’ suggesting the show was wrapping up.
