AMC is bringing a new live concert experience to local movie theaters

Movie theaters are evolving beyond just showing films. AMC is now bringing live music to 300 of its theaters with interactive, real-time concerts.

Forget old concert movies – new technology lets artists perform on stage from anywhere while still connecting with the live audience in theaters, making it feel like a huge stadium concert right in your local cinema.

Bebe Rexha, Paris Hilton, Kim Petras, and Maren Morris will kick off a new concert series showing in AMC theaters this June. Unlike typical concert films, these performances will be broadcast live, letting artists perform directly to audiences across the country.

The movie theater chain is teaming up with Arena One, a live entertainment company, to introduce this new technology to 89 locations nationwide.

During a call with investors on Tuesday, AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron described a new offering as a deeply engaging and shared experience. He explained it blends the excitement of a live concert with the advantages of an AMC theater – offering a large scale, comfortable setting, and being both accessible and reasonably priced.

Thanks to recent hits like “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and “Project Hail Mary,” movie theaters are starting to feel more hopeful about the rest of the year.

These special live events aim to recreate the concert experience, but at a more affordable price than traditional concerts. AMC says tickets will cost between $40 and $75, varying based on the performer and location.

According to Arena One founder Rohit Kapoor, the future of live performances isn’t focused on large venues, but on building strong, personal connections between artists and fans, regardless of location, in a way that’s also accessible and reasonably priced.

Arena One offers artists a fresh, cinematic platform for live performances, capturing the excitement and connection between performers and fans that make live shows so special.

Baz Luhrmann’s concert film about Elvis Presley, “EPiC,” has made over $15 million in theaters, proving there’s a strong audience for music documentaries and concert films.

Movie theaters have been discussing music a lot recently as they try to recover from the challenges of the pandemic and get back to a stable future.

Movies about music – including hit biopics like the one about Michael Jackson, documentaries such as the Elvis concert film, and upcoming concert movies like Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour” – continue to be popular with moviegoers, consistently bringing in large and excited crowds.

AMC CEO Aron stated that he thinks this new feature could revolutionize live entertainment and bring more people and revenue to their theaters.
