“I loved every minute of playing Patsy”: Joanna Lumley would return to iconic Absolutely Fabulous role

Joanna Lumley has been a familiar face on TV for more than 55 years, with roles in shows like The New Avengers, Coronation Street, and, most recently, Wednesday on Netflix.

However, Lumley is most famous for playing Patsy Stone, the glamorous ex-model and fashion editor, in the popular comedy series Absolutely Fabulous, alongside Jennifer Saunders.

The popular British comedy series Absolutely Fabulous aired on the BBC for twenty years, from 1992 to 2012, and was followed by a film in 2016.

So, it’s been ten years since I last got to play Patsy, and honestly, I’d totally take the role again if they offered it to me! I’m really hoping they bring the character back – I’d jump at the chance!

In a recent interview with OK! magazine marking her 80th birthday, Joanna Lumley expressed her eagerness to work with Jennifer Saunders again. She said she would immediately accept if Saunders offered her a new script.

Playing Patsy was an absolute joy. Any actress who claims otherwise isn’t being truthful!

Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley appeared together on screen last year in the Amandaland Christmas Special, where Saunders played the sister of Lumley’s character, Felicity.

Lumley shared that she jokingly warned Saunders not to reject the Amandaland script, just in case she was considering it.

Lumley admitted she strongly encouraged Jennifer Aniston to take the role. She even jokingly threatened Aniston in an email, saying she’d be upset if Aniston didn’t accept the script, because she was confident Aniston would make the project a huge success.

The actress is returning to her role as Felicity when the second season of Amandaland premieres on May 6th, with Lucy Punch also starring as Amanda Hughes.

Okay, so I’m really excited for season two! It looks like Amanda’s still in Soha, dealing with all the usual teenage drama, running her Senuous business online, and trying to manage her collaboration. She seems pretty settled there now, but she’s definitely got some big ideas about taking things to the next level – she’s planning to really grow her business!

Season 2 of Amandaland premieres on Wednesday, 6 May at 9pm on BBC One.
