Johan Cruyff is an exciting new manager to add to eFootball 2026, largely because his Link-up Playstyle offers a distinctly different approach than what’s currently available in the game.
The new Manager version of Cruyff costs 750 coins and introduces a unique playstyle called ‘1-2 Cut-in Link-up Play’. It feels noticeably different from other playstyles currently available. This guide will explain how his system works and help you build a team to take full advantage of it.
eFootball 2026 Johan Cruyff Manager Guide: Introduction
Cruyff’s Link-up tactic revolves around a creative player positioned on the wing and a goal-poaching striker. The winger is the central figure, while the striker is the key player responsible for finishing chances.
As a fan, I’ve noticed something really smart our wingers are doing lately. Instead of immediately cutting inside towards the goal, they’re staying wide at first. They’ll pass it into our striker, and then make a run towards the center of the field, looking for a return pass. That’s when they finally cut inside – it creates so much more space and opens up better shooting angles! It’s a clever little move that’s been working really well.
Unlike many formations where the main striker immediately attacks the goal, in this system, the ‘Centrepiece’ player makes the initial run after starting the play. You’ll quickly see your striker behave differently too – because the Centrepiece stays wide, the striker will often move slightly outside the penalty area to receive that first pass.
Traditional, stationary strikers don’t always fit well with this setup. It works best with a forward who moves around a lot, or by playing two forwards, ensuring someone is always in the box to create scoring opportunities when the other one moves off the front line.
He’s very skilled, with a high rating of 89 in both Possession and Wide play styles. He also gets a slight improvement to his Speed and Balance, making for a really effective combination of abilities.
Best formations using Johan Cruyff in eFootball 2026
I recommend two setups, depending on how comfortable you are with the movement in his system.
1. 4-4-2 / 4-2-2-2
If you’re finding it hard to score when your striker drops back, try this formation. Using two forwards allows one to play a supporting role and connect with midfielders, while the other focuses on getting into the box and finishing chances – ideally, a natural goalscorer. This two-forward setup is popular and can be very effective.
Okay, so I’ve been playing around with this tactic, and I’m really liking how the wide midfielders are still key players – they’re basically the focal point of the attack. The link-up play is still happening, but it’s not all on one striker anymore, which is great! It seems like this link-up is triggered on both the left and right midfield, giving me some flexibility. I can either put a really creative playmaker out wide on either side, or even bring on a sub to change things up. It’s a nice bit of tactical freedom, honestly.
2. 3-2-3-2
If you’re not comfortable with a Possession-based strategy, you could also try playing Out Wide. However, using ‘Out Wide’ isn’t as strong as setting up your defense with an Anchorman DMF to create a solid four-defender line.
When attacking, stick to the same setup: use a central playmaker (CP) on either the left or right midfield, and partner them with a strong, goal-scoring center forward (CF), often called a ‘Fox in the Box’. For the other wide midfield position, choose either a player skilled at crossing or a box-to-box midfielder who can cover a lot of ground.
Player Recommendations and Key Stats
Centrepiece (Creative Playmaker LMF/RMF)
Players in this position – typically fast, skilled wingers – should focus on staying near the sidelines and being ready to receive passes out wide. Rather than trying to cut inside with the ball right away, they excel at making quick passes to teammates and then making a run towards the center of the field.
Keeping possession of the ball and making accurate passes are more important than simply being fast. If a player struggles with ball control, the play will likely fall apart immediately. Since they’ll have many opportunities to shoot, it’s crucial they have the necessary shooting skills as well.
Recommended Skills: One Touch Pass, Through Passing, Long Range Shooting, First Time Shot
Key Man (Fox in the Box CF)
These players aren’t simply waiting in the box for long passes. They frequently move towards the ball to receive it and quickly pass it back to a teammate. This means being good with their passing and ball control is just as crucial as being able to score. If they struggle with quick, short passes, their quick passing plays won’t be effective.
Because strikers sometimes wander out of position, it’s a good idea to pair them with either a Goal Poacher or a Hole Player in the attack. This ensures you still have scoring options even if their connection with the midfield isn’t effective.
Recommended Skills: One Touch Pass, Through Passing, First Time Shot
