I have to admit, I was a little disappointed when the latest Lionsgate action movie didn’t do as well in theaters as I’d hoped. But I’m really excited that it’s coming to HBO Max next month! It deserves a second chance, and I think a lot more people will enjoy it when they can watch it from home.

HBO Max will start streaming Greenland 2: Migration on May 8, 2026. That’s four months after its theatrical release in January, which wasn’t successful. The movie made less than $45 million despite costing $90 million to produce. Critics were split, giving it a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, moviegoers seemed to enjoy it more, giving it a 66% audience score.

Let me tell you, Waugh and his team didn’t shy away from the darkness with this sequel. They promised a world-ending event, and they deliver. It’s not just spectacle, though; seeing the devastation onscreen is genuinely unsettling. It really forces you to confront the frightening reality of nuclear power and what could happen if safety measures failed. It’s a deeply impactful, almost physical experience – a chilling ‘what if’ scenario brought vividly to life.

He explained that making the first film felt grounded in reality, which was a good starting point. But the new movie was much more challenging because it involved building a completely unreal world – imagining what life would be like five years after a major extinction event.

The cast of Greenland 2: Migration includes Gerard Butler (known for How to Train Your Dragon), Morena Baccarin, Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit), Amber Rose Revah (The Punisher), Peter Polycarpou (Waking the Dead), William Abadie (Emily in Paris), and Tommie Earl Jenkins (Death Stranding).
