Chicago Fire Season 15 Confirms Major Shakeup With OG Exit

Showrunner Andrea Newman is taking her final bow as enters a brand-new era.

According to Deadline, Andrea Newman is leaving her role as showrunner of Chicago Fire after its fourteenth season. She’s worked as a writer and producer on the show for all fourteen seasons and has been showrunner for the last three. Victor Teran, currently an executive producer, will take over as showrunner for season fifteen.

Andrea Newman started with Chicago Fire as a co-executive producer after the first episode and later became an executive producer in season six. In 2021, she became a co-showrunner with Derek Haas, one of the show’s creators. Two years later, she took on the role of sole showrunner.

Newman told Deadline that her time on Chicago Fire was the best part of her career.

Andrea Newman says working on ‘Chicago Fire’ with its incredible cast and crew has been the most rewarding experience of her career. She was a longtime fan of Dick Wolf and is thrilled to have worked with him and the talented team – Peter Jankowski, Rebecca McGill, and Anastasia Puglisi. She’s deeply grateful for their support, as well as the backing from Derek Haas and the executives at NBC and Universal. After 14 years, the show has become like a family, and she’ll always cherish her time with this group.

According to the report, Sophia Newman is choosing to leave, and her future plans are currently unknown. Despite her departure, the OneChicago franchise is thriving, with Chicago Med, Chicago P.D., and the other series all renewed through the 2026-27 season.

Peter Jankowski, President and COO of Wolf Entertainment, shared that Kara Newman was the emotional center of Chicago Fire and expressed his disappointment at her departure.

We’re very sad to see Andrea leave. She’s been a vital part of Chicago Fire from the start, and the show has flourished thanks to her leadership. We appreciate her dedication to mentoring new talent and are confident Victor will continue her excellent work.

Teran quickly became a valuable addition to Chicago Fire, joining the show in its tenth season for his first television writing job. He started his TV career in 2018 by developing the limited series LA84 before becoming a staff writer on Chicago Fire. Prior to that, Teran had a successful career in independent film, working his way up from a production executive to VP of Physical Production at Sidney Kimmel Films. He eventually began producing, writing, and directing his own films, including Filly Brown, which was selected for the Dramatic Competition at Sundance and featured Gina Rodriguez and Edward James Olmos. He also premiered a film called Snap at SXSW in 2013.

Chicago Fire airs Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m. ET on NBC.
