Fargo Season 6 Chances Get Exciting Update From Creator As He Focuses On 2 Other Series

There may be more on the horizon.

The TV series Fargo, created by Noah Hawley, is based on the popular 1996 film by the Coen brothers. It first aired on FX in 2014 and was an immediate success for the network. While season 5, which aired in late 2023, was well-received, there’s currently no word on whether the show will be renewed for a sixth season.

Noah Hawley recently told Deadline that he and FX are both keen to continue Fargo, but scheduling is tricky. He’s currently working on season two of Alien: Earth and a new show based on Far Cry, so finding time to write another season of the Fargo anthology is proving challenging.

Hawley says discussions are still happening to determine if something will come of it. He’s optimistic about making an announcement shortly and is pleased to see continued interest.

I was so thrilled to hear about season 6! Season 5 of Fargo was incredible – everyone loved it! With Jon Hamm, Juno Temple, and the rest of the cast, it told this amazing story about a woman in the Midwest who had to be incredibly resourceful to keep her family safe when her awful ex-husband came back into her life. It got a fantastic 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and honestly, it deserved it. I can’t wait to see what they do next!

While both FX and Noah Hawley want to make another season of Fargo, it’s uncertain when that will happen. FX seems to be focusing on season 2 of Alien: Earth first, after the show’s strong debut last year. The first season of Alien attracted 9.2 million viewers worldwide across Disney+, Hulu, and FX in its first six days, proving to be a big success.

Production for season 2 of Alien: Earth is scheduled to begin in London this May. If filming stays on track, the new season could premiere in 2027, though an official release date hasn’t been announced.

As a huge fan of both sci-fi and video game adaptations, I’m really excited about what Noah Hawley is up to! Not only is he continuing the Alien story, but he’s also creating a series based on Far Cry! Apparently, they’re planning to start filming that one after they wrap up the second season of Alien: Earth. It’s cool to see someone tackling another adaptation from Ubisoft’s popular adventure game series.

To manage his busy schedule, Noah Hawley told Deadline he’ll only direct the first two episodes of Far Cry. He also has co-showrunners helping him with both Far Cry and Alien: Earth. Hawley explained that this setup helps balance his workload.

As a huge fan of both projects, I’m really excited about how efficiently we’re filming! We’ve constructed sets for both shows at Pinewood Studios just outside London, and we’re using another location that works for both. I’ve been trying to be clever about maximizing our resources. The script for Alien is coming along really well – we’ve pretty much finished it – and we’re about halfway through writing the other series. Once those scripts are locked, my role shifts and it’ll be up to the directors and crew to really bring everything to life.

Managing two shows at different stages of production makes a new season of Fargo unlikely in the near future. Even if an announcement comes within the next few months, filming probably won’t begin until next year, meaning fans shouldn’t expect to see a new season until at least 2028.

Because Fargo tells a different story with a new cast each season, a five-year break between seasons isn’t as problematic as it would be for shows with ongoing storylines. Still, it’s been a long wait! Considering how popular the show has been, though, there’s good reason to expect season 6 will also be successful, no matter how long it took to make.
